James Blake is one of my favorite players, if not my favorite. Sadly, however, his game seems to have left him. I thought that his ranking in the 40s and 50s was just a temporary consequence of injuries and a playing slump.

However, as the weeks go by, and JB struggles to have a single impressive match, I'm becoming discouraged. It seems like he loses to anyone in the top 50! He struggled against an 18 year old kid with virtually no experience on tour.

So, do you think James Blake will ever make it to the Quarters of a major tournament again? That would mean a grand slam, masters 1000 series, etc.

It is what it is... you are a sum of your body of work. And Blake is exactly what his results show. For a short period of time he was a good player... but never what I would have considered an elite player.

For me elite meant a top 3 player.

He better find a racquet he likes, and soon. Having only 3 in your bag ain't good news.

Blake's one of my fav's too, he's just a good guy.

He still has some gas left in the tank, played an inspiring match against Potro at the AO so he definitely can still play.
I don't know what level of commitment he has anymore, he doesn't seem too inspired.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm afraid he won't too. The ATP is a better place with James Blake in it. just a class guy.

time for him to retire instead of being humiliated like that

I mean losing to Seppi at Wimbledon in the First round last year was bad enough but losing to Bellucci on hard courts yesterday:shock:

It's strange his game has gone down the tubes. He's only 30. Mardy Fish is pretty close to him in age and just beat Murray. You could tie Murray's left arm to his right food and he'd still beat Blake right now :( :( :(

Yeah, I watched that match... what a joke. Amalgro went toe to toe with him, and James broke down.

I guess he did beat David Ferrer recently. That was a respectable win. But he just keeps losing to low ranked players that he would have taken out in straight sets 2-3 years ago.

Like Davis Cup last year. He was up 2-0 to Karlovic, and then Ivo won three straight sets...

Yeah, I'm not sure if he can make it either. He is soooo streaky, and at this point in his career he probably has doubts about how much longer he can play. I still believe that when he is on, he can still beat anybody. I'm just not sure if he could put 4 or 5 matches together to win a tournament or get to the 2nd week of a grand slam. Blake, Davydenko and Nalbandian are still some of the most dangerous guys out there. Just when you start to shovel dirt on them, they catch fire and beat a top 10 player, then Nadal and Federer to win a tournament. Look at Ljubicic! Blake may have a little left in the tank.

Outside of that stretch of amazing play in what, 2006? Blake was never a factor in tournaments. He had the talent but never the mental strength. His only plan was to hit the ball hard and when that didn't work, he didn't have a Plan B. Blake simply doesn't have the tools to play with the big dogs consistently.

I think his best is well and truly behind him - pity, because when he was "on" he was a spectacular striker of the ball.
