Depends on which REM. I'm a huge fan of REM's catalog through Document. Green was weird but ok. Really don't like anything REM did after that.

Also depends on which era Red Hot Chili Peppers. Loved Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Don't like every album after that.

red hot chilli peppers have enough really good songs, all from 20 plus years ago though, pre blood sugar sex magic was quality. turned into a relatively bland pop rock band ever since though.

    I don't know if anyone's reading this.

I had high hopes for both bands when they first came out.

REM foundered due to inaccessible vocals and incomprehensible lyrices; their melodies, too, started sounding alike. I saw them once, four rows from the stage and i believe I may have been spat upon by Micheal Stipe as he sang. Not a very glorious night at all.

I liked the first HCP hit. But their followup stuff foundered on excessive weirdness.

Let's face it: to be successful you have to be presentable in some degree.

So true. Where would Janis Joplin have been without her beautiful face and and the care she put into looking good?

I thought that for decades myself. Then I got wise, and realized they do some great stuff; many excellent covers.

American Beauty and Workingman's Dead were superb albums, they showed great versatility transforming themselves from doing psychedelic jams to folk/country stuff...
