you mean with the grass being closer to hard courts now than grass ?
I mean the drastically slowed down wimbledon grass.
yeah the same meaning i intended , hard courts are slower that's why i said that ..
but with that being clarified i would like to think that Borg would have had a greater chance than mcenroe and judging that they played in the final twice with each of them winning once then i guess that borg would have won that second too .. i always saw borg as a slow court specialist way more than mcenroe ..
P.S : isn't it weird that Borg only won Wimbledon and Roland Garros and never won any of the other two ?
i mean winning on the fastest type and the slowest type of courts !!
Think about what you said...Borg could not win on US open courts...so if the new Wimby grass is like the US open, then Mac would still kick his....
you know i think you're right
i am really contradicting myself , i meant that mcenroe would win
i really should get some sleep before i mess up more than that
borg was put off by the crowds in the USO, he played at his peak in wimbledon.
Yes...the guy did win 5 in a row. But...Mac (in his prime) would have beaten Borg (in his prime) on grass. Which he did.
Of course Mcenore would have a chance, but the real question is would it be harder or easier for Mcenroe to win. I think it would be easier for Mcenroe to win, but this is not to do with the speed of the courts. Comparisons with the USO are not relevant. Borg reached half of his USO finals when it was played on clay. It was not the speed of the surface that stopped Borg from winning the USO, it was the noisy crowds and the late night sessions under the lights. The reason I think it would be easier for Mcenore is that Borg vollyed a lot at SW19, but his vollying would be exposed on a surface with less cracks and a more even bounce. Mcenore's vollying would, of course, still be sublime. However I still would still give Borg a good chance of beating Mcenore on the grass at SW19, but Mcenroe would defenitly have the edge.
It's not like Borg couldn't play on the slower USO hard court. It was a matter of atmosphere for him. He didn't like lights or the crowd.
He didn't play the Aussie, so that is moot. I think McEnroe would have been in trouble on today's grass.
I don't know, McEnroe had success on clay...he did reach the finals of RG. He also was very at home on grass.
on today's slow grass borg could stay back though.
Of course yes!
