Giorgi has the mental edge, but is the talent enough? This is very even right now.
She is all offense all the time. She doesnt have a defensive shot lol
What is Maria crying about. Just play.
The worlds against her
I agree that Maria didn't challenge the call, not sure why the umpire insisted on taking a challenge away from her. Anyway, on with the match!
I still say the bird girl breaks. And then gets broke.
Sharapova thought it was in, then as the replay ran and showed it out, her argument kinda changed to, hey I didn't challenge that! K whatever, it was out.
Giorgi is breaking down. She is choking big time.
Sharapova returns the favor..
Ha Ha knew it.
Grifter serving for the match
Sharapova is trying hard to out-choke her though...
There really is no reason that Sharapova should win this match. But there was no reason that Nadal should have won the other night either. This is where mentality makes up for how you are playing. Sharapova is playing terrible. How she is even in this is only because this Italian girl cant focus.
Nice shot from the changeover:
Giorgi gets hotter every time I see her.
Oh lord the choking is just choking me.
Maybe dad will finally repay some debts
Giorgi giving Sharapova the cold, glacial shoulder.
Giorgi takes it
Maria just lost like 900 points. She is going to be out of the top 7. She better get her act together for Miami. She has tons to defend there. She could be out of top 10 by the end of the month.
Dimitrov isn't going to be a happy camper tonight.
Damn,Maria is so screwed. IW is one of her fortresses and out in the 3rd. Didn't deserve to win though,Giorgi was better
Haha. One hot grifter though.
Impressive stats.. We again top 100 unforced errors!
Unless she pulls out a great clay season her seeding for the french is going to be terrible.
Amazing Maria had 60% first serves in? I would never have guessed that.
What is Giorgi's usual 1st serve percentage? Anyone?
Remember watching her against Cornet @AO. She was firing 180kph serves and even higher than that at sometimes, but her UEs, DFs and 1st serve percentage were absolutely terrible. That match was particular because Cornet was grinding as hard as she ever does and the match always was on Giorgi's racquet.
Torró-Flor looks more Slavic than Spanish. I didn't watch her match against Kerber, can anyone explain how she managed to beat Angelique?
Kleybanova is dictating play right now.
Stephens starting out looking good against Ivanovic. Good redirection especially.
Is it me or has Sloane gained some weight?
I don't recall that belly being there last year.
I remember that match well. It was a very hot day that day and Cornet could barely stand near the end of the deciding set. Still, Giorgi provided error after error and gifted Cornet an emotional win.
Giorgi has absolutely no restraint and goes for everything every time. Even Rosol thinks she could do with an injection of point construction.
I was wondering the same thing. She looked smaller at the AO.
I noticed that as well, but she still looks very fit. Maybe just growing up.
Ana with a tweener! Niiiiiice. But didn't win the point though...
It's strange because the rest of her body hasn't changed much: her legs are still very athletic. If she wasn't a tennis player of the 21st century I'd say that's a beer belly!
Ana breaks back.
4-4, 1st set.
Edit: Stephens breaks again, 5-4 Stephens and serving for the set.
Lol...the funny thing is there are quite a few "professional women" on tour with a bit of a belly.
Sloane takes the set 7-6(3).
Indeed. It goes back to Safina. Although that could be lordosis as well. Some people have bellies because of that.
Wow good job Sloan. Im impressed
Wow. Just woke up to see Pova got done. Bet Camila's dad was happy.
Good win for Sloane but sad to see Ana go out - she's had some good 2014.
Woz or nothing now
All Italian beauty versus the beast later
Great chance in this tournament for either Halep or Bouchard. The winner of that match will next face the winner of Davis vs Dellacqua.
A strange first 2 sets by Bouchard and Halep. Bouchard plays crappy the first set and loses it 2-6. Halep plays crappy the second set and loses 1-6. It all comes down to the last set. Hopefully they can both play well at the same time.
What, no Caro/JJ thread?! I kid Interested to see how it goes though.
Halep is carrying a lot of momentum, and while Genie isn't a huge victory, she won't have as tough a go next round, especially if she buckles down mentally.
Caro led 3-2, Piotr comes out and she loses next 4. Bish bash bosh.
