It certainly does. We have a Thursday night social with players from 3.0-4.5 (most are computer rates BTW). Being a 4.5, I usually try to not be the first server. I'll let the opponents or my partner serve first. Ill return conservatively cross court the first game until I figure out everyone's ability. Then, by the time I serve I know whether to hit hard first serves or to just spin them in.

When it is apparent the level is 7.0 mixed, I'll play conservatively cross court. When it is 8.5 men's combo, I'll play noticeably more aggressive. People certainly get pegged. No one gets upset by it.

Note, when I was 21 I wouldn't have thought of this. It's something you learn over time and get used to.

I forgot to read your Momentum but that's a heck of a story! A few years ago I probably would have responded the same way you did :p Thankfully I have a little more self control now thanks to ju-jitzu. I've never seen someone knocked out at a tennis match but that would have been a funny sight and it sounded like he deserved it to me :)

When I was a teenager I lived in the "hood" and I'd see fights all the time at the basketball court 80ft away. Seldom, but it has happened, some of these gang bangers (tennis actually pulled me out of this lifestyle :) ) would come into the tennis courts and throw down making the court as a make shift ring if you will lol. You found out real quick who was all talk and who was actually a real tough guy lol. Needless to say I do not play at these courts anymore and have no reason to go back :)

Interesting. We had a lot of fights at the basketball courts but we never moved them to the tennis courts. Then again our courts had fence around them so we already had the make shift ring ;)

Hahaha yeah I guess so! Always enjoyed outdoor basketball more than paying $5 a day to play at the rec center. Better players outside most of the time anyways.
