I watched his match against Roger-Vasselin yesterday and I like his style and strokes a lot. I wonder why he couldn't go upper than where he is right now. He seems very talented but it looks like he gets tired and lose focus after sometime.

Well he is 31 years old and ranked #42. I'd say that is pretty good. Never watched him play though.

He can't "go upper" because he gets tired and loses focus.

English is a second language for me. I am sure you speak no other language and never attempted to learn one as you prefer spending your time mocking people with non-English native tongues.

he didn't play Roger-Vasselin, he played Garcia Lopez ;) the spaniard beat him easily at the US open so i was quite surprised by this win
I am a fan, i attended to the challenger of Taipei in april and was upset when he withdrew... great player. Capable of upsets.
What i find very strange is how bad he is on clay, his record is 5-20 lol
he is very dangerous on grass (beat Roddick at Wimbledon)
One of the best players (with Benneteau obviously) with 0 ATP title.

He is getting up there in age and yes he is capable of upsets. I watched his win against Roddick at Wimbledon. Roddick wasn't playing his best, they were on a secondary court, and Lu was playing out of his mind because it was his favorite tournament, the one his Dad always wanted him play but never got a chance to see because he had passed away.

As for his ranking, my reasoning is that he doesn't have any weapons other than his speed. Once you get past age 30, speed is hard to come by. Even the mighty Ferrer's body is starting to break down due to age. It's difficult to dispute that. The game has so much pounding and Lu really loves the hard courts.

I think anytime you have that kind of a background where you don't get all the resources you need (Lu never did) and you have to make it on your own, top 50 is pretty darn good. I agree he is one of the better players not to have an ATP title (non-challenger). It just goes to show tough the tour is.

Agree with this, but Lu is still a poor man's Nishikori IMO.

I saw a match of his live actually (WIM 2012 1R vs. Ryan Harrison) while I was taking advantage of my ground pass at Wimbledon 2012. Have to admit I was watching for Harrison though.

As for what happened to FanOfLu, he is still busy staring at this page:

I like Lu too, pretty backcourt game, but people who say David Ferrer has no weapons should watch Lu play. He really can't hurt anyone with his groundstrokes (unless he is playing very aggressive) and his tenacious running wears him out much quicker than it does the elite players.

Basically he needs to have a perfect and quick day to beat a high ranked opponent, but he's certainly done it before.

The problem with Lu is that in the early years of his career he did not have a lot of resources so he couldn't afford a good full-time physio and he got injured quite a lot. But nevertheless he made it to the Wimbledon quarterfinal had wins against players like Murray, Berdych , Robredo etc.
He is quite consistent although his serve sometimes let him down in crucial moment and his FH sometimes get inconsistent in pressure times.

LOL. What about 23-10??? (Just kidding). Federer is a very talented player. It's nice to have Lu playing him twice.

Hi tipsa, nice to see you :).

nice to see you :)
Lu main problem is mental, in the tiebreakers especially, i remember how he choked against Wawrinka at Wimbledon, definitely could have beaten him

This year against Dimitrov, you could see how Lu gets nervous under pressure, in the last tie break of the match

Yen-Hsun Lu, a 37-year-old Taiwanese veteran (the best player in the history of the country), announced his retirement from the US Open on Tuesday , where he would compete with the protected rankings despite being out of the top 900 of the world rankings at this point.

The Asian player has confessed that he is afraid of the coronavirus and does not want to put his wife and children at risk. In its place enters the Italian Federico Gaio , who is now waiting for the OK from the organizers of the US Open to make the trip to the New York bubble.
