Yes I've searched! Electric vs. Wise upgrade?

I don't see any electric machines I like for under $1,200 right now so I'm thinking about upgrading my old Eagnas Star with a new Wise 2086 Electric tension head for under $500 for now.
Then when I have some more money laying around I can pick up a Gamma Progression ST II, Alpha 4000 or similar to upgrade my my whole turntable setup and just pop the new Wise on there.
My Stringer is in OK condition now but Im sure the clamps and mounts on a new machine would be more efficient.

That would put my whole investment at ~$1,100 - $1,200.
Unless I can find a better machine for this price or a nice used one I think this is the direction Im going.
I'm planning to string 5-15 racquets a week next year so the upgrade will be useful and probably pay for itself in 1-2 years.

Thanks for any input!

If I were you shelling out that volume of sticks I would try and get an apex 2 with a wise on it. that's just what i owuld recommend.

Thanks.
The reason I'm thinking Wise2086 first is so I can get familiar with it while I research stringers and determine which one I like best. I am pretty comfortable with my Eagnas and don't have any real problems with it so I don't mind sticking with it until spring or mid-summer next year.

My volume is looking to be 5 a week minimum and I really enjoy stringing about 2-3 after working all day at my real job so I want to try to push it to about 10-15 a week on average because 5 on a Saturday morning is no problem.

If you're upgrading to a wise you don't need anything else not for the volume of racquets you do. The wise is a very capable machine.

Here is my rationale for selecting the Wise.

1. Room for 1 stringing machine in my home
2. Need a backup (crank or drop weight works as backup).
3. $1200 budget
4. 2 year warranty verses 1 year on integrated machines
5. Repair, much simpler to ship, then packing up an entire machine
6. Modular design can separate components, not locked into a single vendor
7. Eliminate the sore thumb
8. Simpler to upgrade. Remove the Wise re-install on new machine
9. Machines under $500 sell much faster than over $500. Easier to upgrade

I considered the following machines (2 years ago):
1. Aria - $1600 out of my budget, plus I do not like rotational grippers
2. Eagnas 3800 - $759, nice machine, but I do not like rotational grippers or the 6 knob mounting system
3. Eagnas 6000 - $899, best fit, but has a Diablo, 1 speed motor, and bad location for tension button plus the 6 knob mounting system
4. SP DG – $999 decent machine, but clamps need upgrading $150, plus rotation gripper is not for me.

The Wise is a great product and used on both my Eagnas machines. One is an Eagnas Star y12-3 drop weight, still working great after 11 years of use. With the Wise, selecting a machine is a no brainier; just need good clamps, and decent mounting.

Barry!
I've been viewing your upgrade thread quite a bit. I have the same exact machine and just rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up yesterday. My clamp bases work flawlessly now and everything is so smooth.
Can you send me some more info on the upgrade so i can start getting things together while I place my Wise order?
Thanks!

Send to iStringit at g mail dot com

Where can I buy the mounting attachment you used?
Or send some pics or info so I can make it myself if Perez is not around anymore

I ordered it from Herb at **********.com, not sure TW sells the adaptor. Here is a picture

All you do is un-bolt the drop weight assembly (2 bolts be sure to remove the drop weight from the bar first heavy), mount the Wise adaptor and then the Wise unit. Should take about 10 minutes total.

Lakers4life had a better picture at http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=294926&highlight=wise+drop+weight

Should be a big improvement over the drop weight, I know I will never go back to a drop weight or crank, The Wise makes stringing very easy.

When you order, you need an adaptor, Wise 2086, and foot pedal. I seldom use the foot pedal, since the tension control is easy to get too just below the linear gripper. Plus check with TW, they may sell the adaptor now, if so you get free shipping. I called Herb and it took a week to get cost $25 shipped, much better than trying to make on.

Thanks,
Does the Wise come with the straight piece of metal it mounts on?
So you connect that to the L bar bracket mount?

The Wise 2086 comes with the bracket to mount on the Tension Bar of a crank stringer. You will need to remove the bracket, by the three allen head bolts and attach to the L bar.

You could make one, but the holes on the Wise are at an angle, and so are the threads on the L Bar and Tens. Bar bracket I have not measured the angle but it's not 90 deg.

I have this same machine which Barry used to have and want to set it up exactly the same http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3100/dsc020882iq.jpg

That was my first setup with an older home made mount. The new mount from Wise is much better and made to replace the existing drop weight unit and mounts on top of the base plate. The old unit mounted under the base plate and I had to build a wood frame around the stringer, plus drill some holes to support the mount.

I don't have a picture on the new adaptor installed on the Star, since moving to the Eagnas 925.

But wont this new mount prevent 360 rotation? I dont have 360 rotation now but thought I might if I set it up like you?

If you have the old mounting stuff I would gladly buy it from you.

I am building my own table to go along with it so the bit of wood frame on the bottom could be incorporated into the table

Thanks for being so responsive and patient Barry

I could send you the old on, what state do you live in? Since the Eagnas machines all have bearings, you might be able to put large washers on the shaft.

Let me know, will start looking for it. I no longer have the 2 x 2 wood pieces for the base, but could send you the metal piece for the cost of shipping.

If you need a hub lock to string Prince O3 rackets, I have one.
You may need to verify the distances of the mounting holes. But I think they are 37mm x 37mm or 53mm diagonally.

Im in NY and would gladly payp@l you the shipping plus a reasonable price for the mount, thanks

Just need an Email address to contact you, will send some pictures of the adaptor. If you could include your name and address will ship it out today!

Just pay shipping is fine, also it may need an addtional coat of derusto, been sitting in my garage for over a year and in Florida it gets pretty humid.
