    I recently purchased 3 Yonex RQ7 new racquets. I was considering to try and make one of them 27" from 27.5". I want to test it as a 27" length and try to keep the characteristics close to original.

    1. Remove the end cap that holds the butt cap
    2. Cut the handle by 1/2".
    3. Reinstall the end cap and butt cap as before.
    4. Install Fairway leather grip to offset the balance from 1/2" missing (???)

    Is this a viable and easy process?

    What am I missing and need to consider?

    Thanks

    I done it with a racquet of mine and changed the playing characteristics beyond all recognition for the wore. If you are willing to accept this possibility then do it.

    I've done it with an RD 7 Power Long. It's not that hard. One thing you have to remember is that if you have a 2-handed backhand, the grip is going to be shorter. It's not that big of a deal though.

    I'm wondering how much a 1/2" of handle weighs?

    I also removed about 1/2 inch.

    I also removed about 1/2 inch. It's best to draw a line all the way around the grip and use a hack saw to cut the shaft. When you cut, leave an extra 1/16 or an inch to make sure you don't end up with less than 27 inchs.

    In my opinion, it did not upset the balance very much.

    Removed approx. 3/8" from the butt. (Easy)

    Installed leather Fairway grip. (Hard as Sh*t)

    The raquet now has slightly different specs. I have not hit with it but here are the new specs. Any ideas on how it might play and how the sweet spot may have shifted if any?

    New Specs
    Strung Weight = 11 oz
    Balance = 12.5" = 8 pts HL
    Length = 27"
    Swing Weight = 310 ("TWU" Raquet Hang Method w/ pencils/book)

    TW Specs Before
    Strung Weight = 10.8 oz
    Balance = 6 pts HL
    Length = 27.5
    Swing Weight = 318

    I will test it, then decide if I need more swingweight. I like the idea of 8 pts HL though.

    Any comments on the tolerance of the Swing Weight measurement using the TW methods? I'm wondering if it could be more like 320-330 based on how it feels. Has anyone else tried this?
