I'm seeing a lot of reviews of the Vcore 98+ and the Vcore 95 but i'm not reading much of reviews about the Vcore 98.
Why is that?
I just bought one without demoing it cause of covid, so I hope I did not make a mistake.

the vcore 98 is a good all-around racket, but it's not anything special. it has a some pop and spin, serves great, and has decent control. i think a lot of people here have tried it and just moved on fairly quickly.

Very interesting, I had no clue.
Considering I play with the DR98 I hope I don't get too much disappointed.

if the DR98 is anything like the AI98 (which i think it is?), it's a very different stick. the vcore 98 is more crisp in feel, has a higher launch angle, and isn't quite as solid in stock form.

I had an extended demo with the 2018 98 Red version. Added a leather grip and 2 grams of lead at 12 o'clock, strung with Poly Tour Pro (yellow) 17g at 48 lbs. This thing was a beast!! Bought a Galaxy black version and since have fallen for other racquets, but could have stuck with the Vcore and improved my game with it if I wasn't holic'ing so hard. It's like a more controlled, less powerful version of a Babolat Pure Aero without the stiffness. More feel than the Pure Aero for sure. Plush if strung low with poly, but with a modern feel

Thanks snoflewis.
The DR for me is a good stick but felt i little too soft and with some pop but not too much, however i was happy about everything else. Now if the Vcore 98 is a tad stiffer and a tad more powerful than the DR 98 great but i definitely don't need a higher launch angle or spin.

I wonder why the old Vcores have not been discounted yet through any of the online retailers? My local store has steep discounts on them trying to clear out their inventory, but unfortunately don’t have my grip size.

That is a good question. Obviously it's coming down from Yonex, as almost all products in the US are price controlled by the manufacturer (aka MAP or Minimum Advertised Pricing). If you look at the UK/EU sites (where MAP is illegal), they've already come down in price, and I'd bet the US retailers would love to be able to advertise them cheaper (they don't want to be stuck w/ old stock).

My best guess is they're (Yonex) waiting for either the tour to restart, or the Aussie Open to start, so they can showcase the new frames.

Also, remember the 'A' in 'MAP' stands for 'Advertised'. This doesn't mean you can't call TW and ask for a discount...

they've been at close to half price overseas for at least 6 months now. It's just a matter of being able to locate inventory at this point.

Using the old lime 98 DR 98. Its what...8 years old...looking for a little more stability in the hoop, but don't want to sacrifice arm comfort..and don't want to lose speed on the serve...tough to choose which yonex frames to demo

Hi guys, just found the main thread for VCORE 98 :laughing::laughing:
So in a nutshell, due mostly to issues with manoeuvrability and control.. and that I felt that after 1 hour or so it was just too much of a racquet to handle (if that makes sense), I just recently moved from

- Wilson Blade 102, 27.5 length, 18x19, 321 weight, 339 sw, 3HL, 67 stiffness. Strung with VS/4G at 53/51

to

- Yonex Galaxy Black modified to 27.25 length, 16x19, 319 weight, 317 sw, 6HL, 63 stiffness. Strung with Solinco Tour Bite Grey 17 on mains at 57 lbs and VS Touch Black 1.3 at 55 lbs

to a modified

- Yonex Galaxy Black modified to 27.25 length, 16x19, 319 weight, 317 sw, 6HL, 63 stiffness. Strung with Solinco Tour Bite Grey 17 on mains at 57 lbs and VS Touch Black 1.3 at 55 lbs

After 4 hours of a bit of singles and some doubles, here's my findings:

Pros

- so much more easier to swing, effortless
- I can play at the same level for longer
- there's so much spin coming from god knows where :)
- could transition well

Cons

- serve was okay, will have to keep working on adapting to the new racquet of course
- one of my best shots (backhand) is not quite there... timing is off, required adapting (more than the serve though...)
- Solinco Tour Bite Grey 17 on mains at 57 lbs and VS Touch Black 1.3 at 55 lbs feels very comfortable, despite high tension.. I feel that, specially with shots on the run that I lack control. Wonder if that's because of just preparation or the head is too light (6HL), lacks mass
- at the net, handling heavy returns/body shots, the handle just didn't just have enough stability
- returning heavy serves (one of my best shots) just felt more insecure and unsteady that with Blade 104 / Blade 102

Any thoughts guys? I was just wondering if I may want to consider any further customisation to the frame or the strings setup.. e.g. going full bed poly.. adding 1/2 grams at 3/9, etc

Have any of you all tried Luxilon Element in the 2018 VC95? I have it in the 2021 version and it plays fantastic. I may try it in the 2018 version so I can compare both frames better.

What tension do you like it at in the 2021? Was thinking of giving Element a try.

I have a VC95 (2018), 4 3/8 (9.0+/10) that is looking for a new home.

Message me if interested.

EDIT: I've re-configured my VC95 (changed the weight modifications), and it now plays like an extension of my hand. As a result, I will be keeping the racquet.

Had a fantastic hit with my VC95 in the last few outings.

What a joy to hit with. Serves are amazing. I've just hit a groove with this racquet, something has clicked (after my re-configuration of weight mods), and I'm loving it!

how do you have it modified and what strings?

Yes, I have added weight to the head and handle. To the head, I have added 1g at 3 and 9 o'clock; 0.5g at 2,4,8, and 10 o'clock, and 2g at 12 o'clock... with a No.64 rubber band as a dampener (threaded through worm-style in the 8 centre Mains). To the handle, I have added 5.6g at 7" above the butt cap (near the top of the handle), and two overgrips (from memory - first with no overlap and second as standard). I also wrap my overgrips a couple of times around the butt cap in order to flare it out more (which would add some weight to the bottom of the handle).

My racquet is currently strung with Weiss Cannon Red Ghost (1.18mm) in the Mains and Klip Tournament XL Syn Gut (1.20mm) in the Crosses. Both strings are at 46 lbs... however, the stringbed initially felt quite firm and needed several hits to loosen up a bit, therefore, next time I would try to drop the tension to 43 lbs and see if that makes it more comfortable from the get-go.

With these strings, my racquet strung has a static weight of 348g, 315mm balance, and not sure of the SW (but an estimate, based on what @Power Player has said, would be an additional 15-20 SW points on the stock racquet - so 340-345 SW). Static weight, balance, and SW will vary depending on the strings that are used and their gauge.

Hope this helps.

Could you please explain how you added 0.5gr at 2,4 o'clock...did you split it on both sides of the strings? What about 3 and 9? 0.5g on each side? Thank you for sharing your experience. Regards

I use TW Tungsten Tape. I measure out 0.5g, then cut it in half longitudinally, and stick it on either side of the string bed at the appropriate positions (2,4,8, and 10 o'clock). At 3 & 9 I have 1g in each location (so 2g total), done the same way. I also have 2g at 12 o'clock (with a small gap for the stringing clamps).

Hope that helps.
