Federer didn't look to pleased to be getting his behind kicked. I like how Murray shrugged it off with a smile he knows not to stoop to such levels and let his tennis do the talking.

Federer's mistake, let the moment get to him. But I'm sure he felt sorry and regretted it, as evidenced by the extra-warm handshake and chest-pat at the end. That's good enough for me.

Agree, Fed seemed to have been out of the line there, heat of the moment thing but that still doesn't excuse it.

I have no sound unfortunately, but it didn't look friendly, and I have it taped, so I haven't seen it live yet, and you can never trust the match threads. Having said all that, what did Murray do? Did he try to go at Federer's head again or something? Just want honest clarification before I make a snap judgment.

Maybe you should change your sig to "I can cry like Andy, it's a shame I can't play like him".

    Really?

I like Murray more than I used to, but to say he doesn't "stoop to such levels" is absurd.

It was bad form on Fed's behalf, though.

    Possibly said "F*** it up"

Love the way Murray laughed it off tho, if that was what he said then Andy knew in that moment he knew he was not only the better player but also the bigger man.

Murray did nothing wrong. Federer was just irked that Murray's lack of moment cost him the point. Murray probably didn't move because he was doubtful of the call and perhaps considered challenging it. I'm just guessing here.

Show me a time where Murray mouthed off to another player right in there face especially a top 4 player.

You're right I should change it since if Murray played like Roger he would have lost this match ;)

    What?

He shouts to himself when he's anoyed but never at other players. Hell id love to know what all the other players think of Murray, id wager money that he's one of the most liked players in Tennis.

While it's more likely that Fed did swear, contextually "the first time" would be appropriate since Murray passed him on his BH side for the first time, and he pointed to the left side of his face... Murray just seemed to be confused.

Tommy Haas doesn't like Murray much after during the 2012 Halle tournament when Haas said "Murray feigns injuries, everyone in the locker room knows that"

Yes, instead he aims shots RIGHT at them without as much as apologising. Once here and the other time was Wimbledon. Such hypocrites you guys are.

    From the interview:

    Q. You spoke earlier in the week about the good manners that exist between the players. There definitely seemed to be a bit of feeling between the two of you after 6 5 in the fourth. Can you talk about that. Was there an exchange between you?
ROGER FEDERER: I mean, it wasn't a big deal anyway. We just looked at each other one time. That's okay, I think, in a three and a half hour match. We were just checking each other out for bit.
No, I mean, that wasn't a big deal for me. I hope not for him.

Why shouldn't Federer be allowed to let off some steam?
I like it. Good to see he's human.
And "F**k it up" is funny in relation to Murray because he did make a complete dog's bollocks of the point, the challenge and everything.
In fact that wasted challenge possibly cost Murray the set because he had none left so Federer was completely right.
    He did F**k it up.

Look, I'm not about to start hating on Murray, because he was simply better than Federer today and Roger showed a lack of class late in the fourth set. But to suggest than Murray's body of work in the sportsmanship department is better than Fed's is ridiculous.

Well he also has a habit of clutching at body parts when he's losing or the momentum is against him, but he's not really injured. He did so in this match. I wouldn't exactly condone that. Remember RG 2012?. Murray deserved this win, thoroughly outplayed Roger honestly, but he's not immune to pulling a few stunts. Neither is Federer, as was witnessed when he shouted at Murray.

I dont think many of us are argueing that, we're just defending Murray.

I did always love the respect Federer showed to Murray in the Olympic final. He knew that was a huge thing for andy after what happened in wimbly and he was proud to see him get a "big" title that he deserved.

You at the fairground and they have that game when you whack the worm....Murray was the whacker and Federer was the worm who no matter what still pulled out 2 sets even though he was getting outplayed.

I think Murray's over competitiveness annoys Federer challenging for everything in sight and berating himself too much.
I can understand Federer's point of view because it annoys me too.
And, as I said, I support Murray.

I think he's gotten better in the last few years, though. Haven't seen him scream at a ballboy in awhile. That was what annoyed me the most.

Not many, but enough to provoke a response. I'm not defending Fed's action in this match, but the reductive logic on a singular outburst is astounding from some of Murray's fans.

How do you know they're Murray fans? You can't generalise like that. Just because someone criticises Federer makes them a Murray fan?
    That's simplistic and unfair.

On the ball boy incident I'd be amazed if Murray did that but then again everyone has their moments.

I dont know as he ages fed is getting more and more agitated. I miss the old fed when he never showed any emotion and had the poker face no matter what he missed or made. But hes still the most popular player in the world i guess

It must be frustrating, going up against these young machines on slow courts and missing shots he'd have hit with ease in his prime. You know you feel it too. It's all right, everybody has emotions.

The OP is ostensibly a Murray fan, who claimed Murray wouldn't "sink that low" or some such rubbish. You can criticize Fed all you like for this instance and I wouldn't disagree with you, but holding Murray on some kind of virtuous sportsmanship pedestal in comparison is a bit comical.

He didn't get the finger courtesy of a ballboy at the US Open for nothing. :)

I know. I'm not going to grab a pitchfork and throw a riot over it. It does happen a lot in sports and the OP is a clown for hilariously claiming that Murray is above such behavior. Not surprising, all rounder has been taking shots at Federer for the past 2 years.
