Your best or most memorable match?

Hey guys

Just thought it would be interesting to see if there is a match you have played in the past that really stands out for you that you remember?

I play some which could be a week ago and had no impression on me but my most memorable match (not quality wise but in terms of emotion) was 6 years ago 1st round of my club tournament.

My partner was a big hitter not the most consistent, we played two guys who we knew very well and got on with but they were both very steady and we werent too confident! we lost the 1st set 6-4 but won the 2nd 6-3.

Then at 6-5 I remember fluffing an easy volley on match point, there was no tiebreak then at 13-12 they had match point but we saved it!

I usually do not serve well when serving to stay in a match, I think in all honesty I get broken loads under pressure, but that day we worked out in the final set I served to stay in the match 6 times in a row! We ended up winning 3-6 6-4 17-15.

All 4 of us whenever we see each other still remember that match, I don't know that ill ever play a more memorable match!

What are the most memorable matches that you guys have played in?

USTA sectionals: MTB, last match, final match of pool play, both teams with no losses.

My serve is rock solid for my level but serving 5-6 I freaked and DF'd twice. -Everyone- in the area had come over to watch the last match.

On the changeover I looked to see the plaques with the other match scores. I think we had a total 7 games on the other two courts. With nothing to win or lose I relaxed and we pulled out an 11-9 win.

Coming back fron 5-2 down in the first set of a doubles tournament. One of the guys was really ticked.

Unfortunately all my memorable matches were losses. I tend to forget my close wins and just remember my close losses

Had a couple recently actually.

1. Couple of weeks ago, playing dubs with my 14yo son against an experienced couple of guys. 5-2 down in the first set, bring it back to 6-6 and win the tie break. Lost second set 6-4, dumb league rules only allow 2 sets so left a bit frustrated we couldn't have a "winner". Anyone reading this who is lucky to have a son or daughter who they can enjoy tennis with will know what I mean when I say that it's really a very sweet time on court with them. If you're a son or daughter reading this then it's an insight into how much pleasure parents get when the play tennis with their children.

2. This weekend, played a guy much younger, fitter, technically better and hard hitting than me. I had a gameplan to feed him some junk, take the pace off my serves and play general percentage all round, just make him play the extra shot. Again, a break down at 5-2 before I squared it and took him to the tie break. Just lost that 7-5. Was a break up in the second set but he came back at me and won that 6-4. Although I lost he said I worked him very hard and I know I nearly had him, but his quality showed through in the end. But playing like I did makes me really want to get back on court and do better next time.

QFT, my post above is really the epitomy of what you said. I get more pleasure out of losing and playing a blinder than when I win, regardless of how I played. I think it's the challenge you're faced with which makes it more memorable.

It would have to be at District's last season.

We were in the semifinals, playing @ #2 doubles and we got a bit tight in the 2nd set when we had a chance to close it out. Our #1 had been dusted and #3 was too far away to tell, but it was still going.

Turns out we both went into MTB's at the same time! We pulled ours out, nice to have an official come by and overrule both an out call by them (our point) and call the woman for a foot fault while she was serving at 6-8. He had been on me so much at times I was serving 3 ft behind the line. On a couple of occasions he called me and I was still about 6" behind the service line.

Closed out both matches w/in minutes of each other and made it to the Championship where we lost 2-1, in a MTB of course! We have our entire team back but it would take a lot to get back there again this year, everything sort of fell our way even in our own Flight to get there.
