Well, the title says it all, really... what changes do you want to make to your game during the year?

I've decided to completely remodel my service motion - seeing myself serve on video has really opened my eyes to a lot of little issues that I need to clear up. Perhaps when I get closer to my goal I can post a video up here, but for now I am keeping it under wraps :p

As well as this, I just want to play more. It's going to be very difficult, as this is my last year of school, but I shall find a way!

    Play more, alot more!

This past year I was only going out maybe twice a week. But now I will be able to drive so then I can drive there.

Game wise: I will work on my serve, and volleys.

My Serves, my major weak point in my game, i usually just resort to tapping that in and i need it to be just able to catch my opponent off guard a bit

Try to play more. Lose a few Lbs. Really work on my 1hbh. I just hit a new step in my 2nd serve and I feel really good about it. I'm hoping once I do get a bit more in shape, that will help in my footwork.

I'd like to determine my general strategy (aggressive, counter-punching, serve-and-volley). I need to improve my backhand and decide whether to use the 1 or 2-hander, and my overheads need improvement. Would like get an effective topspin serve as well as mastering my kick serve. I'd like work with my doubles partner and get some practice with him.

    1) Be more consistent. I want 0 unforced errors while not holding back. But that's very unreasonable, so 5 or less a set is a good number.
    2) Be more aggressive on second serves in terms of placement and get even more spin and kick on them. A little extra pace would be nice too.
    3) Own a drive volley. Off both wings too! That way I can take control of points and finish more quickly instead of waiting for it to bounce to pounce.
    4) Shore up the forehand volley. Could be better under pressure. Sometimes it breaks under pressure and floats an easy volley just long or just wide. ><

    1. Need to break a bad habit. When ball comes to my body at net, I try to take it as a FH even though I know it should be a BH. I need a pro to hit the ball to me for a solid hour so I can break this stupid habit.

    2. Better footwork -- automatic splitstep and never stop moving during a point.

    3. Make S&V my default in doubles. Need a more consistent approach volley.

    1. I need to drastically improve my 1-hbh return of serve.
    2. Develop some consistency in my groundstrokes. I give away way too many free points.
    3. Need to develop some consistency in my service games. I go from holding game-love to getting broke easily the next service game. No excuse for that kind of inconsistency.
    4. Reduce USTA participation (dropping mixed and combo). I need to spend more time working on my strokes and my singles game. My time and finances are limited now and I need to prioritize and get the most bang for the buck. The league fees are just not worth the amount of tennis I'm actually getting out of them.

Good topic! I'm playing some of my best tennis right now, but what I'd really like to improve on is my volleying and my kick serve out wide. I've sort of conquered the overhitting thing, and am becoming much more consistent as a result. I do sometimes have problems with overheads (believe it or not). This used to be a weapon for me, but for some reason I'm just not timing them right sometimes. I just need more practice with them. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to a great 2010!

    1. Develop consistent ball toss. If that is granted, all else follows.

    2. Better footwork on backhand. Still not consistently making enough adjustment steps prior to planting front foot.

    3. Get fitter. I really let my fitness level slip in 2009.

Overall though, I was very satisfied with the progress in my tennis game in 2009 and look forward to 2010.

    My goals are pretty simple:

    1) Improve as a player - given the time I can devote.

    2) Stop caring about beating people who I've never beaten.
Would be cool to have better scores against them to show improvement.

    3) Become a better doubles player
Would be cool if I had one constant partner for tournaments, etc.

    4) Get ready to do some damage in 45s age group next year.
One thing I look forward to - every 5 years now - is being the youngest in the age group ;-)

    1. Get a better serve (I'm fixing my terrible first serve and learning the slice)
    2. Get into the permanent lineup on my HS team (I was constantly competing with other players to stay out of the exo's, kind of succeeded)
    3. Try and get some attention from colleges (I'd like to play on a scholarship even if it's at a small place)

My game has not changed in decades... now that I am 50, 51 this year... I will run slower... hit the ball slower... and see the ball later.

For me it looks like it will be the year of slower.

But the upside... I am back and playing.

Like a lot of people, the serve is on my to improve list, specifically the kick serve.

Also, work on developing the mental toughness to tolerate long rallies.

I will do nothing but volley for a good month! That's right, no matter what I hit, I will follow that first shot with a volley. You name it, serve then volley, forehand then volley, backhand then volley, lob then volley, volley then volley, shank the ball by accident and still volley. I'm willing to lose several recreational matches this way if I have to.
