I play Varisty dubs. played some of 2 dubs last year when it was my first year on the team. Hopefully i'll play singles this year cuz i hate having to rely half the court to another person. I like covering the whole court. I think the Vince Ike hits with goes to Granada. Not sure though. Which school do you go to?

I have a homepage with some pics (http://hometown.aol.com/jbsikes/) , but, I don't think I've had too many of me taken while playing tennis. I guess I never even think about it. Amazing, I've spent more time on a tennis court than most people, and I can't seem to locate of even one of me playing.
I have quite a few of me as a fan at events (the Davis Cup in Paris, the US Open, Mercedes-Benz Cup in LA), but damn if I don't have any of me playing. I don't know how to post those pics. I'll work on it. I do have a nice mock photo of my ex-gf and I holding up the 2001 US Open mixed doubles trophy.

    LOL

What I mean is, the way I move to the tennis ball, if there's a bad bounce I get hit by it right on the cheek or in the eye 'cause I'm short but trying to get the ball on the rise. Today I got hit again, but luckily I don't bruise easily.

Here is a pic of a very secluded public tennis court(s) one block away from my home. These are the courts I like with dividers between the courts. Peaceful ain't it? ;)

I ... lingered ... over that pic. I'm certain I could hear the echos of points being played in that idyllic setting. Thanks.

Yea, its on a hill, and it can be windy. Sometimes, we see deers and other wild animals around the court. A wild skunk can really empty the court fast ;)

Wow--after seeing the courts other people play on, I realize how lucky we are in Georgia to have so many great public courts. In LaGrange, GA (population 29,000) we have 6 hard and 6 public clay courts that are in great shape--better than at the country club.

Hat's off to those of you like Noelle who love the game enough to play even when the courts are in bad shape.

Forget rain delay, you guys have air pollution delay eh? We have deer and road runners around here. Skunks are in the region but haven't been spotted anywhere near the courts 'yet'....this thread is gonna end up being the most viewed thread evAr on this board, if it hasn't already. Humans love visuals don't they?

With that said, I would love to see a video of people scramming with a skunk in sight.

Noelle, I "see" what you're saying. Why not wear protective goggles and protect your pretty peepers?

gmlasam: Nice photo. Ya know, I'd love it if you could produce this setting in video "clip" form and even if it only featured a pair of club hackers rallying..... back and forth....back and forth......back and forth......it would be like staring at a visual metronome. Heck, I'd even use it as a screensaver! Nice photo. Btw, is there a cooler (containing some frosty "rinses") in the pic somewhere?

there are clay courts, but for the most part they are that crappy green har-tru stuff, that supposedly doesn't play like red clay at all, at least not as extreme. most of the clay courts are part of clubs, haven't seen any public ones. all of the public courts i have seen are hard, pretty safe to say hard courts dominate the US. which sucks, because clay makes it harder to ride skateboards and other things that screw up the courts. is the clay court you're on in that pic public or private?

deflori - Yes. *Most* clay in the US is green (Har-Tru or Rubico are the brand names I know). These clay courts are not as slow as the red clay of Europe. They are just enough firmer that one can play S/V without getting creamed. (Although, S/V on our clay is still *unusual*.)

deflori: Sweet photos. In the bottom picture there's the young guy hitting a forehand with a pronounced Western grip who is wearing white shorts with a blue cross: is he wearing tennis pants or the FLAG OF FINLAND? ;-)

Where are the pictures of the pretty Deutsch Frauleins?

deflori: Lacoste Sportshort? -- thanks for the info.

"Who is for me a Deutsch freulein?" Besides the tennis.....Ahhhh....it was many years ago, and she was a green-eyed, pretty little blond from the town of Zeppelinheim (outside Frankfurt-on-Mein) who went to school in Oberusel. Oh, and did she ever love to eat the knockwurst !

deflori, I did notice an interesting phenomena that involved German woman: one time when I was driving from France into Germany, I noticed that AS SOON AS I REACHED THE GERMAN BORDER....suddenly all the mustaches on all the woman seemed to disappear like magic! ;-) Amazing!

Great pics Peter. All those candy advertisment in the tournament made me hungry, but the pic with the BBQ after the tennis match really did for me :)

    Yeah.

Btw, I think it's quite funny with those advertisments - normally who would sponsor a small local tournament directed at pure recreational players? But I guess it helps when one of the organisers of the tournaments works as a candy salesman...

It really improves the atmosphere of the tournament - it almost feels like a big serious one with them. Actually slightly more serious than some "real" tournaments I've attended to since we have umpires (the participating players get to practice their umpire skills) at all the matches!

The only problem with the Saturday evening/night BBQ is that one is a little bit tired on Sunday morning when the doubles tournaments start at around 8am...

In retrospect, I could have been better off by taking an off-season
of 3 months(Dec.-Feb) and working out at a gym or something..
I know we californians are spoiled and stuff but this winter sucks big time
    for tennis !
