Dont beat yourself up. Your form actually doesnt look too bad. A bit more conditioning would help you drop some extra weight.

Quite. Back to tennis pictures - here's a group photo from last weekend when I participated in a tennis trainer course:

peter, that surface looks pretty shiny. Is the court built in a basketball court? I think I can also see some badminton lines...

good slow mo action there in your avartar Noelle, 2hbh is my favourite and most consistent stroke... should try to lean into your shot more often, as you could gain more pace ....hence your opponent should be out of position for his/her next shot

There's a whole sh*tload of lines on those courts. It's actually quite sad - they used to be real tennis courts with a good hardcourt surface but the tennis club that managed them got into financial troubles a couple of years ago and so the courts got turned over (they were owned by the city) to a non-tennis sports organization and then they resurfaced them with a surface that isn't tennis-friendly at all. (They play badminton, football, handball, floorball and other stuff on those courts nowadays - ie used as a general sports facility).

It's quite horribly to actually try to play tennis on the current surface (so we normally don't do that - we only have some tennis lessons for younger kids there - and had some practice lessions for that tennis trainer course) - the balls skids a lot and almost doesn't bounce. They also charge about 50% more for thouse courts that what it costs at the other tennis clubs in the city.

Well, here's the only tennis picture of me I can post - just after the photo was taken a **** (the word here is B-I-R-D sjeesh) flew by, grabbed the ball in its talons and flew away with it....

but the real reason I post it is because my hobbit name came out as:

    Rosie-Posie Sandybanks of Frogmorton

Cypo - Those courts! Are they as sweet as your pic suggests?

And the "feathered creature" must have already stolen your toss. I can't see the ball in that pic....

matchpoints, was that clinic in san antonio? did you come across chris russo of WFAN radio in NYC (best sports radio show in the country)? skinny guy with a big nose and a raspy NY accent, probably about 45?

It was near San Antonio in New Braunfels. That's hilarious. Out of all the people, I never asked what he does for a living....errr aka feeding his tennis habits. I had joined him for lunch one of the days. Nice guy with great manners. A little too fast for himself sometimes....Volleys need a littler work ;)....tell me how you know about him being there.....

The courts are pretty average for Vienna actually - I guess we have it good, if expensive.

No, the ~avian~ story isn't true - I just find the picture embarrassing because it shows how way too high my toss is/was, and how I will run after the ball when the toss is off :-{ .

Matchpoints - is that really you in both pics ? - you look so different with your hair back ! (but attractive either way).

Are you kidding? I wish we had red clay here. All we have is that Har Tru rubbish. Yes that's me in both pics, here's two more from the same week with some guests and a friend. The second one with my cap on is with my rock n' roll buddy. That boy can play a guitar like a rock star. Hey, your left foot looks twisted. Ouch! By the way, those are sodas we're drinking ;) Cheers.

Prince - How many people trip over those benches at the back fence? Or bash their rackets on it, at least?

(And ... you must be about to *catch* that toss, right? Cuz it looks like you'll foot fault if you hit that serve.)

Ease up KK - didn't you notice that the picture was taken during an earthquake !!
    :- )
And besides - he's going to jump into the serve and hit the ball in the air (aren't you Prince ?) , and you can't say for sure that the left foot is touching the line from the pic - although it does look verrrrrry close.

Nice postion Prince - wish I could get that straight line from elbow to hand.

I can't. It's in my blood ... AND my sig.

That's why I posted "it looks like." I wanted to have (enough) "wiggle room" to allow that I could not be positive from that angle.

    Agreed. A very good "look".

(Power Game is smart.) He knows what a stickler I am, so he cropped his pics and we cannot see where his feet are. But I am confident Power Game is NOT foot faulting.

    Lookin' good, PG!

Here are some clips of me serving since I doubt it will be responded to in the other thread. PLEASE DOWNLOAD THEM I NEED FEEDBACK.

Haha NO I am not foot faulting looks like it though... I use to when I would drag my back foot but I'm using that platform stance now. Amazing what you could learn playing video games ;) And YES I am jumping into the ball
    *tennis smash pro 2*

You know you would love a set of are slightly angled benches! When people are serving you can just slightly shift your weight and the bench moves for you! :D

No ****, he's on Mike and the Mad Dog, the biggest sports radio show in the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area. it's kind of a running joke on the show that Chris gets beaten up for liking tennis by the callers and the other host. he talked about the clinic on the show last week that emerson and all of those guys would be down there

Do you get YES (yankee's network) on cable? the radio show is also broadcast there during the days. Crazy what a small world it is

Thanks, I'll get some better pics up next week. You're right I don't foot fault. Like you it drives me crazy when people do. I serve about 6 inches behind the line...

What do you find wrong with your technique? Looks pretty sound to me. The one first serve you hit that went into the net had a low toss, but of course that's one first serve of the many I haven't seen of yours.

Prince of tennis, you look good judging on your serve and where the ball is going on your opponents court, but I cant see you at all in those videos.

If you have Windows Media player use the brightness to increase it. The technique looks sketchy shouldn't it be more explosive?

No. From the time you start your motion, until you make contact with the ball, you may not even *touch* the line. (Many servers, in launching up to strike the ball, go across the line while they are in the air. So long as they make contact with the ball before touching the ground, this is not a fault.)

[And the Umpire *over rules* the hasty call from KK.]

Better, Dr. H. Definitely better. (I half expected you to have photoshopped the first pic ... with the baseline clearly arcing around your foot!) I must have had dust in my eye....

<edit> Hey!!! You DID photoshop that pic. Instead of fixing your serve, you "fixed" the court. What a RAT!!! </edit>
