Your thoughts on my backhand please.

It's been the same since this match in 1981. Thought you younger guys would get a kick out of some old school classic tennis. Won this tournament with my Wilson Advantage and a Chris Evert Signature (had to borrow my sisters girls frame!) because I broke the advantage mid way through the final set. Ahhhh, the memories.

This is easily one of the best pictures ever posted on TT. It is GPOAT worthy!

Yes boys, those were the ultra popular...Tube Socks. I was going through my Magnum PI phase then. Do they even make Puma tennis shoes anymore? That was my buddies Trans Am.

I thought you young guys would get a kick out of this. Want a current pic, to see how tennis keeps you young at age 56? I played for 2 hours tonight, it's 1am and I'm goofing around here and my guitar sites.

Ok, this was from a wedding last Saturday night. My daughter on my right.

Tennis in the late 70's and 80's was at an all time high. Borg, Conners, Mac, you could not find an open court anywhere.

Enjoy the pic, live well, stay healthy, play tennis.

What a refreshing return to sanity in the wake of the US Open and all that cheeze.

Thanks for sharing G-P. From the looks of things in pic #2, along with your humble disposition, you seem to be aging not unlike a fine wine.

    Cheers!

I seriously love the gear and would rock that look on the courts.

Wait! Was it common to play tennis half-naked in the tournament way back then? With a few inches taller, 50 lbs plus, and few more chest hair, you could have been mistaken for Tom Sellect without the beach and hopefully without his hideous giggle.
Also, ever thought of re-growing your mustache? I think it'd be quite a lady-killer.
    Cheers

Surprisingly, it was very common to shed the shirt. In the finals you had to wear one. The guy I played against wore the entire Borg outfit...and headband. And he had the Donnay Borg Pro racquet. I wanted to beat him mainly for that stupid outfit. He even taped some of his fingers like Borg. Ugh.

GP, in a few short posts you have illustrated the tide of life and the flux of time. Nice job. Kind of struck a chord in me (pun yes) as I'm only 5 yrs behind you.

Wow...this is not what I thought tennis was used to be. I thought tennis had the stigma of being an 'elitist' and 'snobby' sports back then.
    Thanks for sharing
