She is breaking strings like crazy today and the french commentator implied that when they break like this (close to the frame), it's most likely the stringer's fault. Really?

The stringer probably let the string kink by the grommet, easily causes breakage. Or maybe she just shanked the hell out of the ball.

I hope it doesn't throw her off her game. She is playing great today.

Nah, it's more serious than that. She broke 5 so far and she's running out of racquets.

The commentator said that one didn't have the vibration dampener she wanted...I don't know if that's actually the case though.

^ But she doesn't have a dampener... does she?

I kinda heard that she said it was broken already, but that didn't make sense. Strange indeed.

Well Im watching online, and on a changeover the umpire was telling the ball girl, saying that the string is breaking on the way back to the court and to go get more sets of strings from her coach. Cuz Vera pulled a fresh one straight from the bag, and saw that it was broken.

I coulda sworn she broke her strings on the string-bed, but of course the TV angle was funky.

Because Wilson are the official stringers of US Open.

Surely its got to be a dodgy reel of string????

she is using some gamma string.....
it looked like she was using a syn gut. but if it was breaking that fast it was probably natural gut

Cant remember exactly which string it is,but its a pre-packaged Gamma hybrid at around 27/28kg I think. Well it was at Wimby.

^ Paul, do you know what happened with Vera's strings? Were they broken straight from the stringers? Quite fascinating.

Yep, one of the more unique logos I remember from Edberg

I can't comment if there was any problem with the strings. I can only comment on the stringing at Wimby, and we didnt have a problem. The only thing we noticed is she didnt have any rqts strung for the Wimby final IIRC. Maybe she's changed her set up slightly and realised that she'll need frsh restrings more often.

    Regards

    Paul

the reason she breaks so many strings is because there is a problem with the throatpieces in her rackets. they are custom made at princes R&D lab, but they don't seem to work that well

Ah, yes. Now I remember. Thanks for reminding me Jamie. She brought some replacement throat pieces in as the old ones had split on the bend.
