**** #1 Redondo Talks Thread ****

Dear fellow Redondians!

I think it would be nice if we can collect discussions regarding the Redondo in one thread, to make it easier to find infomation in one place, instead of having threads scattered all over.

The #1 I put there is just the thread 'serial number', just in case the thread gets too big to follow.

So, please post your reviews, comments, questions, customization, etc. in this thread. And please try to direct any new question thread about the Redondo to this thread.

I hope this will make it enjoyable to all.

Thanks.

Happy Redonding!

haerdalis 10-19-2006 11:59 PM

I am still eagerly waiting for my Redondo to arrive. In the meantime I am playing with my new PK 5g which has alot of power but is extremely comfortable. I hope I like the redondo as much as some here seems to do.

Heck, I'll say this. . . I was pumped up, charged, to see it came with an original leather grip. To me, this has always bespoken a quality frame. I'm looking forward to hitting with one next spring.

mileslong 10-20-2006 08:31 AM

Stil waiting on mine

im still hitting the demo i got from a friend. has crappy strings in it but im 5-1 since i started using it. waiting on my new one to arrive. :(

played with some lead in the hoop for the first time last night. put two inch strips at 3 & 9. allowed me to really drive the ball from the baseline but it threw off my serving quite a bit last night. im going to try with one inch strips this weekend.

#1 Redondo

I just started playing Redondo. Feel is good , power good just need to get my strokes adjusted to this stick.

I recently moved from demo-hell , so I'm pretty excited about the Redondo.

Anirut

hey anirut, didnt you say you took your leather grip off and put another non leather one on? why did you do this? does the other one absorb vibration better than a leather grip?

anirut 10-20-2006 11:46 AM

Miles, it was all by accident.

I unknowingly ordered a size too big ... HAHA ... I usually play 4 1/2 Wilson leather but then when I played the 4 1/2 Redondo, something wasn't right. It was the slight difference in the grip shape.

Anyway, I removed the leather and use a quite thin, cheap Yonex replacement plus an overgrip. This combo weighted pretty close to the leather itself. Then I add another overgrip, just to cover-up the dirty first-layer overgrip.

I didn't plan this; but somehow this additional second-layer overgrip somehow made things just right. Nice and soft is a plus from the right size obtained.

Sadly, I've never been too good at following advice. But I appreciate your enthusiam nonetheless.

Stevie, I had a similar experience to yours. It took me a while to dial into the Redondo. Seems to be one of those frames that grows on you. Only wish I'd had my demo for longer.

And, haerdalis, I'm in your position now. The 5G is my current stick, thanks to the elbow, but the Redondo suits my game better. I'd love to hear how your demo goes. Maybe we can compare notes.

anirut, I nominate you for official embassador to the TW boards of all things Redondo. Though, basil might give you a run for your money.

Keep up the good work.

hey anirut, i was going to buy a redondo but i never heard from the person i was supposed to get it from after we agreed on price and everything (i needed pics from him). so i didnt get to try it.

but im going to try my coach's head PC600 which is probably close to the same, maybe better (:o)... :D lol i dont know if its better, but i'd love to try it.

so ill never get to try the redondo, however, ill imagine my rds 001 is a redondo when i rip that big forehand up the line... k im done :D

anirut 10-20-2006 12:39 PM

TN22,

Yes, the PC600 is good but I'm not in the shape to play it. The Redondo is more or less an easier-to-play PC600.

ya im thinking of trying the rdx 500 mid because that would probably be a cross between my yonex rds 001 mp and the PC 600 or redondo.

have you tried the rdx 500 mid?

BreakPoint 10-20-2006 12:46 PM

anirut,

So your Redondo has a factory 4 1/2 grip? I thought grip sizes larger than 4 3/8 were not available in BKK?

Also, so if you prefer 4 1/2 grips, why did you say that you "unknowingly" got one size too big? Also, do you now prefer the 4 1/2 grip on the Redondo over a factory 4 3/8 grip on the Redondo? Which size would you get if you were to buy another one?

anirut 10-20-2006 01:29 PM

BP,

I asked Jonolau to get it from Singapore. I asked him to get 4 1/2 based on my usual Wilson-shape size. The Redondo is not (and probably will never be) available in Thailand.

I think if I'm going get another Redondo (which may be an MP soon), I'll go with the same 4 1/2 and mod it the way I did as I've already gotten it right and used to it.

newnuse 10-20-2006 01:56 PM

To give a little balance... the Redondo weakness.

The only thing I don't like about the Redondo is lack of power when you try to kill the ball. It has plenty of power, unlike say the Yonex rackets. You can hit easy winners from all places on the court. But, if you try to really kill the ball, it doesn't deliver. Seems like at a certain racket head speed, the flex limits the amount of power you can deliver to the ball.

If it was a car, the 0-60 accleration would be good... but it has low top speed... say 100mph instead of 120mph you get with a PS85".

Guys who like to hit big often might not like this racket.

Renisis9k 10-20-2006 02:13 PM

Grip Size

I got my Redondo Mid in a 4 1/2 grip size as well. Coming from using Head 4 1/2 there was definitely a difference. I find the redondo grip a bit smaller because of the shape I guess. I may need to try 2 overgrips and see how that goes.

i know what you are saying here. i think also the ball is going faster than you think, due to the big flex i think the ball is shot off without you really feeling the power. all i know is that the guys ive played are all saying i am hitting a heavy ball. its also the most accurate racket i have ever played along with the MW200G.

when i do try and kill one though i do know the feeling you are talking about, its like the racket will just bend and shoot the ball off the same speed as a lesser swing, i think a lot of that is an illusion however...

snoflewis 10-20-2006 05:22 PM

so...in a nutshell, the redondo mid is an easier version of the PC600 to play with, and has more power than the rdx500 mid?
