ever heard of Jim Parker?

Just wondering if anyone's heard of him. He's in his 60's and he lives across the street from me. He's number 1 or up there in his age in the world (don't know how much it takes to do that when your over 60). Just seeing if anyone's ever heard of him.

Hmm I heard of a Jim Parker NFL Hall of famer and Outland trophy winner for OSU in the 50s. Probably not the same guy though ...

Jim Parker from Houston ?

PBODY99 12-13-2006 02:06 PM

He is a great veteran player and USPTR teaching Pro.

atatu 12-13-2006 02:22 PM

Yes, Houston. I don't know whether he played pro, but in senior tennis circles, he's well known.

mhstennis100 12-13-2006 03:47 PM

Yea he's the head pro at Houston Raquet Club but he's retiring sometime this month.

If you have a look on the USPTA website there are a number of short tennis tip videos and several of them feature Jim Parker.

Isn't he the guy that hosts The Price is Right?

mhstennis100 12-14-2006 02:08 PM

No...he's a tennis pro...

vsgut 12-14-2006 04:45 PM

Jim was All American at Rice University. He was on the same team as Mike Estep and Harold Solomon. He taught Richey Renenberg and numerous other pros.

Was Jim the guy in silhouette on the Converse Jack Purcell box? Sure seems like I hit with his daughter in '82 or so when she was in the 14's.

You're thinking of his brother Bob. Jim Parker is the guy who sang "Ghostbusters."

Actually the guy who sang "Ghostbusters" was his son, James Parker, Jr.

Bob Barker: Price Is Right
Ray Parker, Jr.: Ghostbusters

Parker was a big, strong brother. Played right field for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the late seventies. Famous for throwing a guy out at home from deep rightcenter ... without a bounce.

Dave Parker: Pittsburgh Pirate right fielder and all star

OK, I am getting the feeling you guys are just trying to confuse everyone. lol

Ronaldo 12-18-2006 07:29 AM

Actually to avoid confusion, this same tennis player has donned a mask and travels as La Parka, http://www.vivalaluchalibre.net/churchoflaparka.htm
