Rate this guy

Here is a video of a guy who was warming up his serve for a match. I caught him a USTA tournament. Can you guys rate him? I'm curious.

Thanks in advance

It's gotta be. No mention of where the tournament was, guy's name, just a simple "rate it"?

Yeah, I would bet that that is him.

Nice serve. He most likely gets very good pace. He does seem to have a hitch when he starts his upward swing.

Sup, Draq - behave yourselves!

Tough to tell, but based on his fluidity and motion, I would guess 5.0 or even higher. I don't know too many folks who play at a low level but have nice looking serves.

He could be a pro. His serve motion looks fluid and solid, which usually means that he's worked on it extensively. Someone who's worked on their serve to get it to that level has probably worked on the rest of thier game as well.

I rate this serve a 5.0 =P not the guy because i havnt seen him play yet lol
=P

2 new videos

*Bump*

I added two videos that will help rate this guy.

One is him warming up his groundstrokes

Second is one in an actual match.

Please see original post.

Thanks in advance.

4.0-4.5...nice strokes.

Edit: Just saw your serve video...i'd rate your serve at 5.0-5.5. Looks nice.

WBF 02-08-2008 06:43 AM

Pfffffft.

While he did get a bit sloppy hitting that slice at the end right to his opponent, did you miss the deep backhand, flattened out forehand, down the line shot, and overall good court coverage? I don't think it is physically possible for a 4.0 to look like he does. A 4.5 seems quite unlikely as well.

I stand by my original guess, 5.0 and up, but now I'm leaning towards a higher rating.

Sup2Dresq 02-08-2008 07:31 AM

Maybe this will help votes.

The courts were well maintained clay courts and played slow. You can see that the ball really died after impact.

TnTBigman 02-08-2008 07:55 AM

he moves and completes his shots pretty well. nice service action. i'd say 5.0 to 5.5.

His serve was impressive enough to say 5.0. But then his groundstrokes make me want to say 4.5. In the match, he hits the FH hard, but then has a really weak approach shot. Enough so that the other guy hit a winner without really trying. His FH looks a bit suspect, but only because it is so flat, and he doesn't seem to confident with it. His BH looks a bit weak in warm-up, but he seems to hit with confidence in the match. I'd say 5.0 overall.

Good points.. but... in his defense the courts played really slow. You had to wait a little longer for the ball because it tended to sit up. Probably why you see a delayed tense stroke.

Keep it coming. I think I given enough video to make a good choice. Right?

I'm going to say 5.5. It's a "center court" of some sort. A small crowd applauds at the conclusion of the point. You rarely see that at 5.0 and below (unless he's being rooted on by his USTA team).

Interesting observation. The crowd applause justifies the level of play .. ? Am I understanding that.. I guess you wouldnt see too many people gathered for a low level match.

All good points.
