that's correct Roforot. He went 82-3 in '84(the best winning percentage of the open era) He was undefeated until he blew a 2 set lead over Lendl in the finals.

I see Fed losing more often on clay than just having two losses.

JMac's 1984 match record will never be beaten, IMO.

McEnroe went on that year to what John Barrett of the BBC called the most perfect Wimbledon two-weeks he'd ever seen. McEnroe demolished Connors in straights at both Wimbledon and later Lendl at the Open. Against Connors, he won 1,1, & 2; Lendl 3,4,1.

I agree that it's going to be nigh on to impossible to equal McEnroe's 84. But, if Federer can maintain his current level, it's possible.

Has any other player won more than 80 matches in one year, within the past decade other than Kafelnikov? I think Yevgeny won like 82 matches in '96, the year he won RG.

federer at wimbledon was downright scary. he dumped 1 set...thats pretty f-ucked up guys :>

Vanja, I believe Hewitt had something like 83 wins in 2001.

Pete won 85 in '93, Muster won 86 in '95, Hewitt won 80 in '01

Ya Kevin, I love that site. Didn't Safin win more than 80 one year too? This year, I see Fed more like 85-10 or something. Still insane, but it's very possible. If he could go more than 80 wins and under 10 loses, I would be scared, that would be great, and I would love it all.

He'll have to do extremely well even for his standards, but yes that would be possible.
