A normal rate for private lessons?

Sup guys, was wondering what pros around you charge per hour for private lessons.

I want to start taking private lessons regularly, but he charges an hourly rate of about $60, and he told me if I became one of his regulars it'd be discounted down to something like $40/$50. He charges $80 though, at the indoor tennis club, only due to the fact that that's what the club charges.

I was just wondering what pros around you charge, so I can have a good idea of what a "good" price is. Thanks!

Depends on where you're from and the relative wealth of the area. In Phoenix, for instance, the going rate in the suburb of Scottsdale is $65 to $100. In Mesa/Gilbert, the rate is more along the lines of $40 to $50. At some of the ritzy resorts, it's $100 to $125.

I live around Bellevue, WA, and most people charge around $40-$60 for a good coach.

I have a very inexpensive coach, only $35 an hour beacause he has a court at his home. We love him and he and his son even hit with me for free!

Good coaches can be found around here from $30-50 /hr. This is South Carolina though...

Thanks for the responses guys.

Seems like the rates are very similar, but my parents don't seem to believe me lol, and think they'll find quality for $20 an hour.

Do you live anywhere near a college w/ tennis teams? If so, you might indeed find a quality hitting partner. Players are generally strapped for cash and you might be able to hit w/ a college player for $20 to $25 an hour. Not necessarily a coach, but somebody that can still make you a better player.

Hadn't thought of that. Rutgers is only about half an hour away, and Princeton an hour away.

My kid used to hit w/ an ASU women's player who charged $25 for 90 minutes of hitting. At the time, he was 15 years old and she played #3 singles and #1 doubles. He learned a lot from playing her.

mine is 35$ for 1 hour but a great coach :)

Charlie_Boy 09-21-2008 05:45 PM

The coach I'm talking to charges $80 AT the tennis club he works at, simply because it's what the club asks, it's like a forced rate.

Then outdoor, separate from the club, he's asking $60. But he told me if I pre-scheduled dates and became a regular, he'd give me a large discount which seems fair.

tennisVS 09-27-2008 06:11 AM

unfrtunaty i only get half hour lessons and they are $29.50.

Scotch Plains is the town...about half an hour from Newark. And it's right next to Westfield.
