Corretja vs. Coria

Wow! What a great first round matchup we have on our hands. I think, in all honesty, that we will see Corretja win this meeting of clay masters in a TOUGH, epic three set match. Since he has recieved a WC to this tournament, Alex will be playing with alot of a fire to prove the tournament directors right. Maybe Guillermo will still be feeling the effects of those kidney stones. If Alex can win this match, it might turn his career around the right way again!!! VAMOS ALEX!! Win this one!!! What are your guys thoughts?

JohnThomas1 04-18-2004 05:27 AM

Coria to win for mine.

edge 04-18-2004 07:04 AM

If Coria is heallty, he can win this match in his sleep.

ibemadskillzz 04-18-2004 07:11 AM

Coria is a clay court specialist, plus he weighs about 35 lbs. He chases down everything. He has a perfect drop shot. If he is healthy, it's going to be 6-3,6-1

Are you guys raving lunatics. Are you and I thinking of the same Alex Corretja who reached the French Open Finals twice, won Rome on clay, and has won multiple clay-court titles? The same Corretja who was once no.2 in the entire world.?The same Alex Corretja who won the longest grand slam match all-time? The same Alex Corretja with the deadly one-handed backhand and the awesome personality? Man show this guy respect!

Anonymous 04-18-2004 09:44 AM

I've changed my opinion. Alex in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Don Felder 04-18-2004 09:46 AM

Also the same Alex Corretja who has not been of any significance whatsoever in any meaningful tournament for 2~ years?

Anonymous 04-18-2004 09:49 AM

I guess the French Open semis in '02, the titles in Kitzbuehel and Gstaad in July of '02 don't count then, obviously. I mean who cares about the French semis? Pshh, you Felder could OBVIOUSLY reach them....

Fat Boy 04-18-2004 10:57 AM

At least when Phil is rude he's usually amusing.

It's kids like you with your witless posturing and general weirdness, that have turned this board from a source of enlightenment and amusement into a yawnfest.

Can't you find something else to do?

racquetbreaker 04-18-2004 11:05 AM

what are you people talking about here? Corretja plays Ferrero in the first round of Monte Carlo. Not Coria. Coria plays Enqvist.. at least he did the last I looked at the draw.

Feņa14 04-18-2004 11:28 AM

Fat Boy,

I am fairly young but I don't ruin these boards do I? im just wondering if I am under the teenagers list?

just curious.

Anyway If its Coria then I want Corretja, but if its Ferrero then it's my man Ferrero all the way!!!! Come on Juanqui!!!!

I'm sorry, I fail to see how pointing out a player's obvious, significant decline in results over the last year or two in arguing his future results constitutes "childish" behavior. Corretja has been a non-factor on the ATP for a while now, he got married, and he hasn't done much... perhaps a few in '02, I don't keep a record book in my head. I know he virtually did nothing in '03, posting a losing record and not having any significant results. Therefore, I don't see him beating a young, tenacious clay courter like Coria or Ferrerro. Very childish of me.

Fat Boy 04-18-2004 11:58 AM

Many apologies if I offended Liam and Don.

I was only referring to the person whose post immediately preceded mine.

Don Felder 04-18-2004 01:13 PM

Ah, ok. Glad you cleared that up :)

Sorry guys it is Ferrero. But Alex ones Juan-Carlos.

PureCarlosMoyaDrive 04-18-2004 09:03 PM

Ferrero plays Corretja first round? It's over for Alex, sorry.

@wright 04-19-2004 06:46 AM

Corretja used to be a warrior, but he's done now. Stick a fork in the guy.

Rocky Top 04-22-2004 04:23 AM

Geez, this was too easy - you could almost see it coming. The minute the TW boards declare someone "done," there is a 95% chance he will walk out and pull off a great win. Nice work - Corretja has always been one of my favorites.

Let the "JC wasn't himself" whining commence...

@wright 04-22-2004 05:48 AM

Dayum. These words are pretty tasty!
