changing from open to closed stance
I've been out of regular tennis for 1-2 months due to a nagging knee injury... I feel I must change to a closed stance as it puts less torque and stress.
Couple questions in general: Right now I use a SW-western grip; can I keep it w/ closed stance. I don't have anything against Eastern grip except that it's unfamiliar now. Plus I've gotten accustomed to the mindset of hitting shots 5-6' over net and counting on topspin to bring it down. Oh and shoulder high balls are much easier to return.
Are there any current pros to look at or model after for closed stance. Last one I remember was Sampras? Agassi does close though when he gets a chance to attack a FH.
Any other knee friendly tips? I've read about overpronation, and have used inserts which helped for a while. Unfortunately most of this started when I began loading the right leg...and I trully was hitting FH as great as ever...
Going back to closed stance/eastern FH feels like step back since this was how I started playing tennis so many years ago...
