The umpire on matchpoint.
Granted, I don't know what he actually did because the camera was so far away, but one youtube poster pointed out that the umpire was celebrating as Federer won. Check it out at 10 seconds.
Looks hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFpuj6-cAAk |

Fate, the epic picture had to be posted. Thanks! |
doesnt look like he was calling the ball out to me.
|
I think he was just waving a fly out of his face. You get those in London around this time of the year. I love that chair umpire btw.
Who doesn't like fed? He's such an admiral guy. |
It looks like he's gesturing that the ball was out. He did it throughout that match on close calls. Notice how he extends the arm before the point is over at the 12th second of this clip.
|
Its a scandal, a disgrace, an outrage!
I demand the result of the match be nullified and a replay scheduled immediately with a new umpire in the chair! |
His job was done anyway. He can do whatever once he says "game, set and match". It is not that he was found unfair in any of his rulings.
If he was not showing that the ball was out, then I guess the guy simply wanted some attention, knowing that the whole thing was going to be all over youtube. |
He had money on fed

lol come on guys, the umpire is human. It's championship point. He's allowed to show some emotion besides just turning his head on a swivel side to side 900 times a day.

Before the match Chris Fowler said something about the umpire not being able to officiate the finals that Nadal played in since they're both Spanish. Is this true? I never knew that they took nationality into account
|
He wasnt celebrating smarties,
He was signalling the ball was out. |
I don't think the signal for out is pumping your fist and smiling.
