Rafa taking a year off?!

Nadal is not going to be playing until 2014? Surely this is a typo! :(

YOur thoughts?

This is all Rosol's fault:)

Towser83 08-02-2012 10:11 AM

He says he's not playing TORONTO this year. Next year it is held in Montreal. Hence he will be back at Toronto in 2014.

Also he's only talking about the canada masters, not the whole tennis calendar

Cup8489 08-02-2012 10:12 AM

He won't be playing Toronto this year; Next year Rogers Cup is in Montreal, so he can't play it in Toronto until 2014.

Emet74 08-02-2012 10:12 AM

Never mind; everyone else already wrote the same as me -

Bergboy123 08-02-2012 10:12 AM

My understanding of that is that he isn't returning to that specific tournament until 2014

It all depends on Wimbledon 2014. If he loses early, he would withdraw from Toronta 2014.

So the real winner is Cincinnati as it will always have the Canadian buffer for Rafa.

mpournaras 08-02-2012 10:17 AM

Well now I feel awfully stupid :(

kishnabe 08-02-2012 10:20 AM

Nadal should take a year off to get his ranking up in Golf and Poker.

Rafa knows that 2013 is his year, why would he take it off? There's a very strong chance he'll bounce back 2010 style. Rafael Nadal performs best when he's the underdog.

Who was it that said it would be more logical for him to skip Cincinnati, because it's better to play a tournament in Canada?

zcarzach 08-02-2012 10:25 AM

The tennis world isn't that lucky...

I thought Rafa usually "takes off" odd years (2009, 2011, etc.), no?

Taking a year off from what ? His age? Is he gonna be listed as 24 or 25 on the ATP site now? Will that make his niece younger ?

Wasn't this supposed to be "his year"?

Devilito 08-02-2012 10:38 AM

after the beating he took from Rosol he should take two years off

Alchemy-Z 08-02-2012 10:47 AM

maybe he will drop in rankings and focus on slams and be a nightmare 1st/2nd round for someone next year
