Shame on the Junior Tennis Community
Shame on the junior tennis community for not stepping UP to support this weekend's ********-adidas "ALL IN" Junior Tennis Challenge! Tourney creator Sol Schwartz worked his heart out to make a difference & pleaded with coaches & players to be part of it. Soo many agreed - "yay-go sol-great idea" but talk turned out to be cheaper than ever: TWELVE PLAYERS signed up. What a shame! :(

Details (written by Sol earlier this week): I created this event as a response to the attack on junior tennis by the USTA. This attack has now spread to the collegiate tennis ranks with rules changes now be proposed to damage that as well. This tournament represents what is great about our sport and needs your support to help make a statement. The tournament is this weekend, with matches starting on Friday afternoon. If you are OK with the shortening of matches. If you are OK with limitations of exposure. If you are Ok with matches being decided by playing a super tie-breaker for the 3rd set, then don't come. If you are not, here is your chance to help drive home that point. Have your people come in and play this tournament under a different set of rules. Let the kids compete for an unbelievable prize. Winners receive a one year Adidas clothing and footwear sponsorship package. If you want in, you have about 24 hours left to enter. Call me at 410-687-6400 or email me at sol@********sports.com with any last second questions. Actions speak louder than words. Everyone talks of their unhappiness about where junior tennis is headed. The last couple of days, everyone is talking about their unhappiness with where college tennis is now headed. Come so something about it! Step up! I need to see you here in Baltimore this weekend. Make a sacrifice to help stop the attack on our sport! Thanks. Sol Schwartz

Maybe some people couldn't afford the travel, maybe some people had other plans.....and we gotta come on Talk Tennis and hear someone preach "Shame on You" to us. Anyway, I think you have now set the record for the largest mass diss on this Board |

I also feel bad for Sol and Holobaird sport that tried to organize this tourney but I understand a lot of limitations it would be. 1. This is a brand new tourney. Though it was mentioned and promoted in a few blogs but still it is new to parents and players. 2. It is in Maryland. Not many parents can justify the cost of traveling from far away. 3. The fee is ~$100, close to national tourney fee, last time I check. 4. It is an open for 18s. If your child is 13-14 and not Koslov, will you consider this tourney? Even with better ads, most likely it will attract local players the first year. |
Great idea - Bad Timing
We need these type of tournaments going forward. Sorry we couldn't make the trip with back to school etc.

728 signatures on the petition to change 2014
The NCAA petition was supported at a much higher level and is getting attention in the media. There might be some shame that more folks haven't signed the 2014 JCC petition. And there has been zero media on the USTA JCC changes. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/...-jr-rules.html
