Fila Astroceramic

Anybody know anything about them? I found one new, unstrung with all grommets.

What would be the best string to try on it?

Is it comparable to other major ceramics from the era?

These racquets good for power, spin, other?

Thanks for any input.

SP

PS Discovery model, all were named after space shuttle.

I had a 2nd generation Fila "Astroceramic" Champion that I used around 1988.
The original Fila Champion (early 80s) was IMO one of the coolest rackets of all time.
Anyways, the Astroceramic line of frames seemed to be named after the space shuttles - Columbia, Challenger, Discovery - something like that if memory serves correctly.
Coming from the late 80s, they are old school by today's standards - heavier and more flexible.
A new one is a great find.
I would think pretty much any string will work well in it.

i just found a Fila System graphite.
Made by Snauwaert in Belgium. Classic PS 85 colorscheme and individual grommets.
Nice condition only the grip 5 is to big for me.
Anyway, nice to add to the collection of Fila woodies.

Post a pic of the Fila System Graphite (please)!

Yep, that's the one!!!

I am so jealous. I've been looking for one since the 90's. Please post a photo so that I can drool even more.

Also, be careful stringing the racquet. Even though the grommets are new, they are probably dry and brittle from being so old. The could crack when a string is pulled through them.

Hi guys

What can you say about this Fila racket below?

http://www.custojusto.pt/Porto/6796406.htm

I'm a modest collector myself (I'll post some pics from my old school frames one day), and a bit curious about this beauty

It looks good

hi!
actually this is the one i have, not the previous one posted here

Antónis 12-14-2012 08:54 AM

I have some more pics from this stick, how can i upload them?

I'm just about to buy this racket, I should send an answer to the seller this weekend.

I'm not familiarized with Fila rackets, and how much they worth, what do you guys think about this one?

Hannah19 12-14-2012 03:06 PM

In the current market it's hard to put a value on it.
FILA rackets are not the most wanted for collectors but then again, they do represent a classic tennis brand.
I'd pay about U$50.00 for one like this in average condition.
Mint would be around U$75.00.

i think you need 50 posts before you can post pics. i say $50 is fair enough depending on condition

Antónis 12-15-2012 07:40 AM

Ok
I just bought the racket, 15€ with shipment fees - thats about 20 USD, or so
It's not mint, there are some scratches at the top, but i think it's a good deal anyway

zapvor 12-15-2012 09:34 AM

good stuff!

Antónis 12-19-2012 08:25 AM

Hi guys

My Fila just arrived today, and what an absolute beauty racket this is

Just some few ware scratches at the top, nice original Fila leather grip in good condition, the cover is almost mint, and has some kind of velvet surface outside and inside (kind like my Max 200G cover, but black - the Max 200G is a classy red) - this one deserves some picks here, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to upload attachments.

It's a really heavy stick (I would say in the 370's grs. range), very head-light, don't have any info about head-size, but seems smaller than a PS 85, and a bit bigger than a GTX-Pro, probably around 80 Sq. I., and it's 100% graphite, so with this specs must be a really stiff racket

The strings are lame, but I'll try to hit a bit tonight, just for the fun - if the rain allows me to...
