Naw he's doing it wrong. You're not a true 1-handed backhand tourna grip user unless you get 4 uses out of 1 grip. Up, down, front, and back.

Lol, I'm pretty sure that with his wealth (and probably sponsorship contract) he doesn't need to do that.

Wow, that is some ENORMOUS butt he creates on the handle.

yea "butt" what does it MEAN...?

LeeD 10-09-2012 10:42 AM

He must hold right at the buttcap, meaning he chokes up the handle a bit, and doesn't want to let fly on errant backhand mishits.

That's really bizarre.
With as many racquets as those guys usually bring to the court, why would a pro need to change a grip during the match?

LeeD 10-09-2012 11:43 AM

Knowing a few high level players, they always try to stay WITH the racket that is feeling good, they're winning with, and don't change a winning strategy!

It's the JLo of racquets..!

That's really weird... a professional tennis player that can't even make use of a whole handle? And has to regrip during a match? And that puts so much on the buttcap? :D

As LeeD said, this is not uncommon. The Williams sisters are known to do this, Venus doing it regularly when winning.

What's the point of covering the entire handle when a one hander only needs to use the bottom half? :)

I sometimes do this when I want to flaunt my leather grip, makes my racquet feel more superior than others with a synthetic undergrip.
