My forehand used to be very flat/powerful but now its week
 
Been inactive for a few years in tennis, came back this summer and my forehand has become significantly weaker. I mirror roddick's technique in both wings. surprisingly my backhand has always been the more solid, i can get get sick angles off my backhand but i used to get a lot of pace on my forehand (more than my backhand but not as much consistency, now its all loopy and very inconsistent).

tips?
i used to be a big hitter but my forehand has been lacking in pace.

but my backhand is actually more consistent than my forehand lol. i can hit fireballs with my forehands if i want to but it's not nearly as consistent.

The most common cause for a lack of power is that players fail to fully coil.

Are your swinging your shoulders as far back from the ball as Andy in your backswing?

Are you driving with your legs as powerfully as Andy?





Consistency, on the other hand, often fails from perfect body positioning - not getting in the optimal position for a great contact point.

Are you coming out of a split step every time your opponent hits the ball?

Are you making the small adjustment steps as the ball gets closer, so that you neither "crowd yourself" or are too far from the ball?

Do you keep your eye on the ball until contact?

You may just need more practice to redevelop the "muscle memory" so that positioning, coiling/uncoiling and timing become second nature like before you took time away from the court.

If there is time for you to practice, but no one is available, don't overlook hitting against the wall.

You can get a lot of hits in over a relatively brief time at the wall, redeveloping your old skills.

Keep your backhand.
Hit your forehands flatter, but not as flat as before, find a compromise.

Another great piece of advice. Thanks. yeah i've been using more spin on it but it isn't as penetrative as it used to be.

my best shot however is my dtl backhand for sure

try more closed stance and step in for contact rather than too open stance. this works better for flatter shots.
