Murray - Federer on clay?

They never played on this surface! Who would have an advantage? Federer have a better results on clay, but Murray's defensive skills could be crucial...

Right now, Federer. An year or two later, probably Murray.

Federer moves hell of a lot better on clay. I think clay would be the surface Fed would have the most advantage on against Murray. HC is obviously most even, and grass would also be closer than a potential clay H2H between them IMO.

kishnabe 10-13-2012 09:14 AM

Federer.....Murray plays even more ugly on Clay.

Gonzo_style 10-13-2012 09:21 AM

Murray would be even more attacks his serve on clay, also Murray played pretty well against Djokovic and Nadal in 2011!

kaku 10-13-2012 09:22 AM

2011 was an odd clay season for Murray, his best yet. If he can continue playing like that he could become a clay threat, but right now, Fed

Homeboy Hotel 10-13-2012 09:32 AM

Federer and Murray had junk clay seasons in 2012, losing sets off the wrong players at the wrong times.

2011 however was a different story, both were playing amazing on clay.

I'd say Murray with faster movement could maybe pull it off, but I'd say its very, very close.

Hope to see a clay match next year.

As a Murray fan, even I have to concede Roger would trump Andy on clay by virtue that he moves better on the surface. I still don't think Andy moves quite as well so room for improvement.

Murrayfan31 10-13-2012 01:13 PM

Murray would win. Federer is overrated on clay.

NadalAgassi 10-13-2012 01:46 PM

I dont know why Murray isnt a better clay courter than he is. As it is now no contest. Federer is a top 15 clay courter of all time. Murray probably isnt even top 150.

Okay Murray lost to Ferrer on clay this year, so there's no way he'd beat Federer on clay right now. Especially considering Fed is 13-0 against Ferrer including 4-0 on clay.

OHBH 10-13-2012 04:04 PM

Clay is Murray's weakest surface. Fed in staights

Clay is also Federer's weakest surface...

6-1 6-3 6-0 10-14-2012 06:49 AM

Probably Murray. That 6-2 6-1 6-4 win over :-| Federer :-| at the Olympics followed up with a 6-4 6-4 routine win over :-| Federer :-| (on hard-court) is a changing of the guard in terms of who has the mental edge. And Murray is one of only a handful of players to beat Federer 10 times or more. And Murray would also probably win on clay at this point, since we know how much he has sucked against Djokovic on clay this year (lost 5 straight sets on clay against him).

Defensive skills in and of themselves aren't the best indicator of clay court prowess. Clay requires a specific sort of movement that Murray just isn't as comfortable with as the rest of the top 4. As such, Federer's movement on clay is much better than Murray's, though it gets a bit worse every year as he ages.

Murray started off the head-to-head 6-2 against Federer. Going 2-0 against Federer in the last two matches is not any sort of changing of the guard. It's the match-up proceeding the way it always has.

Hard to say, actually their H2H was always interresting, because of their only HC matches, just this yearīs Wimbledon and Olympics changed it, really weird guys with so many matches and top gyus for years neeeded so many years and matches to finally play outside of HC

I think clay is hard to tell - for both players it is worst surface, but Roger had great succes at clay just thank sto his overall greatness- i mean he was years best player on clay after NAdal, now lately last 2 years i say Nole is superior player on clay than Roger.

But if Roger is better than Murray on clay hard to tell, Murray seems to be difficult match-up for Roger- not tough, but not easy one and clay as slowest surface gives Murray more time for deffense, return, longer rallies, i mean Rogerīs biggest assets like serve, fast tennis and quickly ending rallies wonīt work on clay as good as on HC. On other side Murray is clearly better player on HC or grass too, but i think his game on clay match-ups very good vs Roger and i would say Murray will win if they will playon clay- besides blue clay in Madrid there would be Roger favorit:D

BMWprestigem3 10-14-2012 07:43 AM

I think Federer would have the advantage.
