Zennis or The Inner Game of Tennis?

Not feeling my best today (Pepto prior to it didn't help) in my match against a 4.5 today and had a mental 'breakdown' during the match.

I'm looking to get a book to help with the mental side of the game.

Has anyone read 'Zennis' by Peter Spang or 'The Inner game of Tennis' by Timothy Gallwey? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks for any and all input.

well i also would like to read them..
there are many raving reviews on the inner game,
but just a few on Zennis.. it's less popular i guess.

the inner game of tennis is AMAZING Honestly helped my match play in tournaments. Since reading it i am 6-7, when I started out my USTA career like 0-8 or something like that

I've read the inner game of tennis. Great book! make it your bible.

Also read 'The best tennis of your life' by Jeff Greenwald. A few consider it the modern inner game of tennis and I agree. I read it after the inner game of tennis and a good chunk was review and dumbed down. A much easier read imo.

Definitely read 'Winning Ugly' by Brad Gilbert after mastering the two books aforementioned.

I've read both books. 'Inner Game' is a great one--it's not a 'zen' book, but it feels like one, it just feels like the author lived it. Zennis is okay, but I didn't feel like it changed my game or the way I thought about tennis.

The Inner Game of Tennis is also my bible. To that end, i have written a book called Play Zen-Sational Tennis. It is the practical part to The Inner Game of Tennis. You can get it on Amazon or on my web site. www.maxtennis.com. My book will give you many many great tools for playing the mental game.

I have written a blog entitled "CAN YOU PLAY YOUR BEST TENNIS AT 3AM?" which offers a unique perspective on the type of mindset that works best for competitive players. There are other articles in the blog which also deal with strategy, technique and match-play theory. here is the link http://thetenniswhisperer.blogspot.s...-at-3am_7.html

Your book is great!!! I felt that you were repeating yourself too much in the book at beginning. Then one day when I played a match and was tense because the pressure of winning, something from your book about "you need focus on playing well, winning will take care itself" just suddenly jumped out my mind. Then I relaxed, focused on watching the ball, and then win in the end. So I guess your book is not like a common book for reading, more like a tool to "brain washing" :) Good work and Thanks
