New Gulbisīs forehand..... oh my God

Iam watching him now in Vienna.

Have you ever seen ugly forehand like that?

Is like a 3.5 NTRP forehand.

Who is trainer him?his father?

The Bawss 10-18-2012 11:01 AM

He almost beat Nadal on clay with that forehand.

He did beat Fed so there was no "near" about it.

Nostradamus 10-18-2012 01:31 PM

something's wrong with the forehand. mechanics wise. he needs help from ivan lendl

coolhandluke 10-18-2012 02:11 PM

No he recently changed it to the ugly stroke that he has now!

Someone is going to have to link the "new" forehand.

old forehand.

looks like he has a bigger, loopier takeback and finish.

Old news. Everyone saw it when he beat Berdych 7-6 7-6 7-6 at Wimbledon this year, then lost to that Polish guy in the next round (Janowicz?).

LeeD 10-18-2012 03:36 PM

I"m only an old 4.0, but that looks like a 7.0 forehand to me.

Your sig is ridiculous,*********. And what makes it funnier is Mike Shams has been on my ignore list for the longest time now. Am I ignoring myself?

Gulbis did do something to his forehand, and it wasn't for the better. It's almost like he scraping the ball up off the ground his take back is so low. It was much better before.

The Bawss 10-18-2012 03:55 PM

Why did he change it? It was a monster in 2010. It's not exactly like he's going places with his new forehand.

dominikk1985 10-18-2012 03:59 PM

the takeback means absolutely nothing. It is about what happens in the forward swing.

gulbis has good technique. he was erratic with his old FH and still is:). but he does have a ton of power.

cluckcluck 10-18-2012 04:37 PM

That forehand still has him on the pro tour, which is more than you can say I'm sure.

True but it's still totally different from the way he used to hit. He looks uncomfortable hitting it,too. His old forehand was flatter but much better than this.

roundiesee 10-18-2012 10:09 PM

Agreed; the old forehand looked so much better; wonder why he changed it, :(

WilsonWand12 10-18-2012 10:46 PM

It seems like several pros are changing their forehands for loopier backswings, possibly to add more pace to their shots. Nadal did it as well, and Djokovic smoothed his out. Federer seems to be the only one that actually went to a more abbreviated stroke over the years.

faranell 10-18-2012 11:43 PM

it looks really clumsy.
anyway i lost my hopes. and i really love his game. when he is in the mood to actually play, of course.

toly 10-19-2012 12:11 AM

Here are Gulbis and Murray FH. IMO both look good.
