What are tennis shoes?

this question sounds dumb but i've never really seen a section with tennis shoes. i have seen a section that was for running shoes though. what is the difference between those two type of shoes? they are suppose to really light though, right? :-?

I'm also new here, but I'll try to answer...

Tennis shoes are designed for the tennis court surfaces and are often made with more durable soles to prolong useful life. Most good tennis shoes also come with a wear warranty.

Tennis shoes seem to have better lateral stability than running shoes, and even more than court shoes meant for basketball.

You won't find them at many main stream shoe stores. For example, the nearest Nike outlet here only has one tennis shoe last I checked.

It's not a dumb question at all. Illzoni has covered the technical points so I'll just add that hard court tennis is a sport where wearing good quality tennis-specific will cause you less aches and pains in your feet, ankles and knees at the end of a two hour session. It really is one of the few sports where trying to get by with running/skate shoes is a really bad idea. I learned this the hard way.

I'll back that up.

Short answer: Tennis shoes have better durability, support, stability... And are designed for tennis.
