Question for Jason. RE: The new blog/Blade

You played with 2 blades that apparently were 20 pts apart in swingweight. Is this correct?

Do you know what the swingweight is supposed to be? I know when the black 6.1 demos came out last year people were excited by the "lower swingweight", but that basically ended up being a QC issue.

I ask because I really like the specs of the current Blade 98, and if it comes out a little softer thats fine, but I hope nothing else changes.

TW Staff 11-06-2012 08:02 AM

Yes, the swingweights were really that far a part! I think the swingweights for both are supposed to be in the mid to high 320s. And we did have racquets that were in that range and those felt great.

Thanks for that info. So they lowered the swingweights of these sticks a little from last year. Not sure if I am happy about that move. I guess I will have to see how it demos and go from there.

I'm excited about having the new Blade swing weight be in the mid-320s, which is in my wheelhouse. As much as I love the black/gold BLX Blade, the SW hurt my arm.

The swingweight should be right around the 328-334 range. I think our average so far is 328ish.

That is for the 18x20 version when strung.

Stiffness

Any chance you were able to get the stiffness rating of the 16x19 versus the 18x20 versions? Thanks :)

Come on Jay spill the beans on the new blade 16 x 19 ! any info would be nice come on buddy

As with all things Wilson, get TW to match them / pick a spec for you.

I bought four Juice Pros this year and they were all over the place in terms of swingweight. It's a well known Wilson issue.

For the sake of another $10/$20 or whatever, its money well spent to the get the retailer to spec them for you.

Alright, alright! I actually like the 16x19 Blade better than the 18x20. It gives me more power and spin. I also feel like the sweet spot is bigger. The downside would be the lack in torsional stability. It does tend to flutter more so than the 18x20 during those off center hits. I know the swingweights for both string patterns are very close, but I still feel like the 16x19 is more maneuverable and whippy.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

Jason thank you

Question for you. would you say the pro open 2012 is significantly different from the blade 16 19 and worth purchasing ?

Secondly are you going to switch to 99s

Thanks J! I know maneuverability is your fav aspect, so you must like it.
Can't wait to try the 16x19 Blade. Wonder how it will compare to the Pro Open and Juice 100? All good choices for us 4.0's.

coolblue123 11-07-2012 11:07 AM

the Blade 98 looks really sharp! Does the 16x19 look the same?
