Where Do You Break Your Strings on the String Bed?
Where do you break your strings on the string bed? I know that people say to hit the ball on the center of your strings, but I always break my strings higher on the string bed. I don't ever break strings from framing shots and this is not so high that it could be because of the grommets. Its just three or four crosses from the center. Could it be the amount of topspin or the forehand grip I use? I use a semi-western grip and hit a good amount of topspin.

I almost always break the main either L or R 4 at about H5 on a 16x19.

I almost always break one of the two center mains, one or two strings below the center cross.

I'm so bad at hitting the sweetspot, I can break just about any main except the side 2 ones. Some setups, the crosses break first usually in the top half of the bed.

i'm a 5.0 Player who plays with polyester strings. I know that you get more power by hitting lower on the string bed, but do you get more control by hitting higher on the string bed? by the way, when i say lower, i mean in the direction of the butt cap and higher would be in the opposite direction.

99% of time, mains, around the area slightly upper than the center of string bed.

Of course when some anomalies happen, I pop crosses, or right near frame, or even outside frame and so on. But these rarely happen to me like freak accidents or due to bad string jobs and so on...

Usually anywhere from the center main to the second or third main in the upper third of the hoop. You know, I don't recall ever snapping a cross string.

A little higher than the center of the stringbed for me too. I put my string savers up high. 7th and 9th crosses counting from the top.

It's either the cross 2-3 above center or one of the center mains at that same cross spot. It's the one part of my game that is consistent.

Center and left. If you look at it from a contact point perspective,(where the sides 3 and 9 are the top and bottom), then I always snap them on center and a little higher.

Geology_Rocks! 11-12-2012 04:15 AM

ALWAYS the center cross for me.

anubis 11-12-2012 05:50 AM

around 12:00 at the hoop, one of the center mains

kopfan 11-12-2012 02:12 PM

Hybrid setup Poly/Syn or multi, break on middle cross. 99% of the time.

db10s 11-12-2012 02:53 PM

4 crosses from the top.

db10s 11-12-2012 02:54 PM

But on one of the middle mains.

J011yroger 11-12-2012 03:47 PM

From serving, dead center and high in the bed.

From hitting topspin, a bit above center and 3-4 mains off center.

From hitting flat, a bit above center and 1-2 mains off center.

For me it's a lot in the lower quarter of the bed. Mostly mains 2-3 at a time. I shank a lot on the bottom half of my frame so it's a lot of extra stress. I haven't broken on the upper quarter of the frame in probably a year.
