Gamma Moto 16

I got a free set a Jr. Orange Bowl... It looks like Black Widow. I'm on my phone so I may have missed it, but it doesn't look like TW has it... Anybody tried it?

zapvor 12-13-2012 06:18 PM

Good luck.

zapvor 12-13-2012 07:55 PM

good luck man! let us know how you do. are you playing with moto?

db10s 12-14-2012 10:02 AM

No, I'm using Dunlop ICE at 55 lbs, it's a good "disposable, tournament poly"....

db10s 12-14-2012 10:04 AM

And if all else fails... I just pull out THE Black Widow frame...

zapvor 12-14-2012 09:38 PM

so how did you do?

I didn't play with the intensity that I usually do.... My first serve was good but my second was mediocre at best. Another issue I had was staying in the rally, the speed of the hard courts was throwing me off. I let him get in my head to much. He is a fast paced player who will serve even if he has only one ball, and continued to yell at me for taking my 90 seconds on the changeovers (I never take that long, I only took that long in order to make him upset... ) and also for wanting a ball in my pocket on my first serve. He continued to act like he had no clue how to speak english... I later found out he was swearing perfecting fine in english on the other side (away from where the ref was). It was an interesting match, not something I would like to see again, but I know I will play more people like him.... Overall it was a good learning experience.

I'm reviving this thread since I'm curious to see if anybody has more info... Still haven't strung it up.

sstchur 01-21-2013 10:40 PM

Here is some info on Moto:

"A heptagonal shaped string developed for the high performance player. This seven sided construction allows for greater ball bite so a player can generate massive amounts of spin on ground strokes and serves. The co-poly material
is very responsive and provides greater feedback and excellent tension maintenance."

I play routinely with the Pacific Northwest sales rep for Gamma and Dunlop. He is a former college player and plays at 5.0 to 5.5 level (double handed on both side interestingly). He's VERY good and he whips me whenever we play, but I can keep up with him from the baseline in basic rallying practice.

Anyway, he uses the new Gamma Moto string and he "loves it." That's actually what he said to me in an email when I asked him for some info on this string: "I love the new Gamma Moto."

Is that Jack you are hitting with?

Is it indeed. You know JG? Good guy! Great player.

mlocke1322 01-22-2013 09:20 PM

My boss is his ex teammate from New Mexico. We do a lot of ordering with him for our programs. Just a great guy to know!

This string has won the mini-group test in German Tennis Magazine. Head Hawk seems to score highly as well.

Sounds like it might be worth a go.

I wasnt nuts

I used TWU to sort out strings about a week ago and posted the info in 2 other threads. The results were that Moto was the best string. Good to see subjective results back up the data.

Torres 11-06-2013 11:17 AM

I'm surprised that there seems to be such little interest in these strings...early reports seem to be very positive.

I've ordered a few sets in the 16 and 17 to try out...

I tried the Hawk last month in my Donnay Silver 99, it did take me 3 sessions to get it going but it is a great string. I'm just worried it might be priced in the Luxilon range. ugh. :-?

have played the moto 16 in lime http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showp...&postcount=135

and the moto 17 in black http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showp...&postcount=164

the black 17ga was far superior in terms of playability to the 16ga lime version. i don't know how much the colour influences the stringbedbehaviour, but i'd rather have a shorter lifetime with pretty good playing characteristics than a longer lifetime with mediocre at best characteristics.

the moto17 reminded me a a little bit of the weisscanon black5edge, although it has been quite a while since i played that one. i would have loved it a little bit crispier overall, but i'm talking nuances here.
