Pre-AO events 2013 Discussion Thread

Strangely there's no thread for the tournaments. Ah well that's what happens I guess when both Federer and Nadal aren't playing in these 2 weeks.

Since there's no particularly strong field in each of the tournaments I decided just to combine all of them together in one thread, include the Hopman Cup if you like. :)

Brisbane draw (Raonic not defending his Chennai title): http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/339/mds.pdf

Chennai draw (Berdych got a WC):

Doha draw (Ferrer is playing in it?)

id love to see a Murray-Raonic final in Brissy.

Watched the Tomic v Haas Hopman Cup singles last night. Tomic came from 6-1 down in the first set tiebreak to win 8-6 and 5 games to 3 down in the final set to win 7-5.

He had a few moments where he wavered but not many and really showed some fighting spirit when the chips were down. He generally played a positive brand of tennis, took the fight to Haas and reaped the rewards.

Enough for this Aussie to applaud his efforts to turn his game around and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

Karlo loses in the qualies at Doha.

Brissy's going to be won by the Donald. Hail to the Donald! He's taking inspiration from RGIII winning the NFC East this year.

Janowicz is going to play in Auckland. :)

Obviously the best news we've had about Bernie for what, years?

Hold on, Tomic fighting back???

What kind of alternate universe is this?

Maybe they gave him a transfusion of Hewitt's blood before the match?

The other things that makes this match amazing are:

A) It was against a higher ranked player
B) He responded to the increasingly noisy crowd when he levelled at 5 all in the final set by waving his arms for them to make more sound in support of him.

He plays Djoko on Wednesday night so hopefully they get a big crowd and Tomic makes a match of it.

I think Stepanek might beat Hewitt will he??

stringertom 12-31-2012 10:05 AM

Jarkko continues his Bennie ownage...six straight now.

Sharapova pulled out of Brisbane due to a shoulder injury. Sexy Steps withdrew as well because of an eye infection and Rusty will now play LL Kunitsyn.

Millman sees off Ito, Istomin steamrolls Klizan and Falla defeats Levine, all in straights.

Warmaster 01-01-2013 01:22 AM

Goffin dismissed Ebden rather easily, I fancy his chances against Melzer!

what up with Klizan getting whacked??? He had such a good end-of-year run on HC's so I expected anything but a total beatdown.

If the US beats France in the doubles at the Hopman Cup, my mate wins $3000. They lost the first set so you can imagine how he's feeling right now

IIRC he played against Melzer in Valencia? Had a double break up against him in the 1st set but choked and lost in straights. I think if Goffin gets his game properly he could snag a win.

Finally some new-year tennis, as I'm watching the Qatar Open.

dlk 01-01-2013 07:46 AM

Ferrer takes the court; I enjoy his game.

Rock Strongo 01-01-2013 08:17 AM

I love Brown's game. Every shot is nuclear!
