So I have bought from TennisWareHouse Europe a grommet set for my Redondo mid, counselled by their technician that a grommet set original designed for the Black Ace 93 would fit my Redondo 93,

But

Alas it does not fit the Redondo frame AT ALL!

So beware out there, don’t be buying the black ace grommet set if you want to replace Redondos sets, and this one makes two, because in 2011 I bought a grommet set for a jack kramer staff 85, this time, I was assured that grommets for the pro staff 85 re issue would fit the Kramer staff and also they didn’t… I don’t use the racquet it is just for “be pretty on the wall” purposes only, but now… now it was just a kick in the nits…

What didn't fit with the Kramer Staff? Was it just a problem with the tie-off holes or more than that?

same issue with the redondo mid... the crosses spacing was just too diferent to fit in the racquet... it would be necessary a huge amount of cutting or heating up the plastic of the grommet set for it to be remotely close to the spacinfg in the frame... it can be done, but for a working racquet like the redondo i need to use, it is just not a valid option.

This is very odd, indeed. TW USA shows the Redondo/Black Ace grommet sets as being the same for both the 93 and 98 models.

I can assure you they are not the same!

I have put a Redondo over a Black Ace (current Black Ace) and they are identical. You should be able to use the grommets with ease.

they realy dont fit, at least not these.
the crosses spacing are diferent, plus the new grommets have woofer style inserts, and the older grommets are narrower between holes, so its impossible even to cut them to place...

Maybe you got a mislabeled set?

Or your frame has been deformed through stringing.

hmmm i dont think so, i have another redondo mid, almost new, and the spacing from my older one is not any diferent. much more likely that i got a mislabeled grommet set for another 93 sq inch frame?... no as well, the grommet set i have new is imprinted with "prokennex" in the head guard, so im guessing that spacing for the black ace 93 is in fact a bit diferent to the redondo...

or im doing something realy wrong

I am guessing, based on your posts, that you are experienced in replacing bumper/grommet sets?

you got me there my good sir. I only once before have replaced a grommet set for a microgel radical mg, but if memory serves me right, that one was a breeze to install.

the thing is... how the heck am i going to put the side grommets if the spacing is diferent? if they where flat grommets i might have just cut them, but as you can see in this ( http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psef4cda20.jpg ) photo, the spacing is clearly diferent... beeing the older set smaler in distance between grommets closer to the tip of the head.

any ideas guys?

Ah weel i have written to tennis warehouse europe staff, and in fact, they have confirmed that indeed the dumper set for the black ace 93 will not fit the redondo mid frame...

here is my reply

"Thank you for contacting Tennis Warehouse Europe. We have looked in to this matter, and while it has been said and believed that these grommets should be interchangeable for these two rackets, unfortunately we have confirmed that the Black Ace 93 grommets will not work for the Redondo Mid racket...."

But now what guys? where can i find grommets for my frame??

A friend of mine is a Graphite Destiny nut. He frequents a Pro-Kennex forum that has a lot of resources for grommets. Check it out.

can you provide more info on the forum? i did a quick search but could only come up with one for badminton. tia
