Wrist issue...anyone with something similar?
I've been dealing with some moderate wrist pain. Let me give you a little prerequisit info:

I'm experiencing wrist pain on my pinky side, right below the wrist. It hurts the most when pronating and supanating my wrist. I'm a 4.0 player. Been playing a while, but I'm not ruling out that the pain is caused by a technique problem. I've tried stiff and flexy racquets and haven't noticed too much change in the pain. I've also tried rest, as winter time in the Northeast provides me with PLENTY of time to NOT play tennis (sucks, I know). Any thoughts?

I have had that for the last month or so. Seems like it is finally getting better. I've been using home ultrasound on the tendons near my wrist.

When I was trying some new forehand and serving techniques I got some pain on the ulnar side (pinkie). See the USTA wrist injury discussion in a link in the second TW thread.

Thread on serve. See reply #167.

Can you get a high speed video of your serve? A 60p DSLR with a fast shutter, 1/2000 sec, etc might do also but you might have to video several serves to see wrist angles.

For the forehand see especially the Charliefedererer replies and links.

What kind of strings do you use? I find that whenever I play poly (even at low tensions) I tend to feel some pain in the wrist.

Split UT Ligament Injury

I am trying to find some follow-up news or people with this split UT ligament injury but have not found anything yet.

Anyone have experience with a "Split UT Ligament"?

I've had that problem, mostly top of the hand, not the palm side, pinky finger base.
I found that by swinging thru the ball on EVERY shot seems to alleviate most of the problems, while blocking the ball causes more and more pain.

Chas has given you plenty of good information.

But if it still isn't better after considerable rest, it is time to see a hand surgeon for an examination.

(Hand "surgeons" don't operate on most patients they see - but there is no other specialty that sees so many problems involving the wrist.)

I've had ulnar side wrist pain for a couple of years now. The pain was worse when I was holding something with my palm up and it created leverage against my hand, pushing or pulling it down. Like holding a diner plate with my fingers.
The injury happened when I tried to hit a very hard hit shot and the racket twisted in my hand. It would start feeling better then be aggravated again. This pattern went on a while, so I went to the Dr. and got the usual take Aleve, and rest advice. It didn't help, but it's hard for me to completely rest it because of my job which requires a lot of lifting, grabbing, pushing/pulling etc. Went back and finally got an MRI, which showed that I have a partially torn(or healed) ligament in the TFCC. The treatment for now is physical therapy. It's feeling better, and if it does flare up it seems to recover quicker, so hopefully it is continuing to heal. Anyway, you might try looking up exercises for TFCC injuries and see if they help, if you can't get to a Dr.
I also wore wrist supports, but the Dr. never said to wear one or not to. I'd wear a brace at night because I tend to clench my fists and tuck them into my chest. I'd sometimes wake up with achy wrists even before my injury. I also got a support called the wrist widget, that I had mixed results with. It seemed to help at work, but if I played tennis while wearing it, I'd end up getting pain down the outside of my forearm. Now, the only thing I wear is the wrist widget thing if I do weight bearing exercises. I almost feel like I don't need that anymore though.
Anyway, hope your wrist feels better.
