Wilson Blade 98S ?

Is Wilson supposed to introduce a S version of the Blade 98?

My sources tell me that the Blade will get Spin Effect technology in 2014.

Looks like this is coming in a couple months from what I hear.

Haha. Also a new "low friction" poly to go with it. Gauges from 15 to 17 and white or black.

Bartelby 07-08-2013 08:58 AM

Spin effect trend can't last.

I have also heard from a sponsored Wilson teaching pro that this racquet will be out soon. He is also part of Wilson/Luxilon's string team and has been reliable in the past.

it's a natural evolution in response to full poly setups. I'm only surprised it wasn't done sooner.

Just what Wilson needs, five or six new models that largely duplicate existing models.

what racquet would a 16x15 Blade duplicate exactly?

mlocke1322 07-08-2013 11:39 AM

String pattern is 18x16

wtf 18 mains.. lame. I'd settle for 16x16

More info:

Starts shipping in Sept.

New string is called "Ripspin". Marketed as low friction monofilament that increases spin and extends string life.

Yes please. 16x16 pattern in a Blade frame....sounds really interesting.

16x16 would very un-Blade like (sort of the tennis equivalent of very un-Dude). 18x16 would be a very interesting twist while still maintaining the essence of its Bladeness. :)

why, they already have a 16x19. How is 16x16 that bad for a spin effect series racquet? Maybe they can do 16x15 in their 93sq" frame

That would be more interesting in a PS or 93 than in the 98 really. Given how the Steam S series racquets eat strings, it wouldn't make much of a difference in a Blade 98. And that would be un-Blade-like. :)

I'm definitely going to wait till this racquet comes out before I start doing demos again. This is one that I'm putting on my list. The specs are right where I want them, and I want to see what more spin will do for my game. The 18x16 pattern actually sounds good to me. The reviews on the Steam 99S 16x15 indicate that it's a bit unpredictable, and I heard a lot of comments about it eating up strings.

mpournaras 07-08-2013 04:50 PM

teh steam and the blade have disturbingly similar specs and having a blade 98s and a steam 99s is just diluting their product line. more rackets to go on clearance in a year or so i guess :)

blade 98 16x19

98 sqin, 333 sw, 11.2 oz

Steam 99s

99 sqin, 331 sw, 11.4 oz
