National OK, international is gamble, maybe sent back to check them in.

Usually totally fine! Just make sure it's in a secure-enough bag with your name on it in case there isn't room in the overhead bins and they have to take it from you at the gate!

Rackets not an issue in USA - TSA does not list them as prohibited. I fly with a full 12 pak almost weekly.

I have only had issues with frames as carry on flying from and within Australia.

I did this two years ago.

Seems still can do it.

Which country(ies) did you have a problem in? I only had one brief issue in China - was able to explain they were no threat and (the strings) would be damaged by the extreme cold temps in the cargo hold - was allowed to take them on.

I took a racket in my luggage over to Germany last summer. The strings were just fine.

Glad you didn't have a problem.

I never break strings; forgot to carry on once - broke a pretty new string on the 3rd stroke. It's -50F give or take in the cargo hold - unless you got lucky and your bag was in a heated hold - some are.

The other reason to carry on: baggage handlers aren't getting paid for gentleness - they have to move product - the product is our bags. If you put towels around the stick or have a hard shell suitcase then you'll probably not have a problem. But you never know. It's painless to carry them on - better safe than sorry.
