Origin of Bryan Bros chest bump

Was it from the Red Hot Chili Peppers Higher Ground video - Flea and Keidis do a perfect chest bump in the beginning of video - or was it from the Jensens?

Also, Bryan has said Leander Paes trash talked the Bryans at one match and said they stole the Chest bump from him lol.

Can we Sherlock Holmes the exact origin of the chest bump?

Agreed. They get on my nerves.

Gonzalito17 02-18-2013 06:02 PM

Great video thanks for sharing. The Bryans might have gotten it from the Red Hit Chili Peppers Higher Ground video, which is from the late 80s. Or the Peppers got it from the Bryans. It's one or the other.

Cool to hear that Venus initiated the chest thump at Wimbledon ) Never would have thought that as V is usually all business out there.

NBA players do it all the time. Magic Johnson used to do it a lot in the 80s with their fellow Lakers.

And I'm sure they didn't invent it. It has to be older than that.

RogerRacket111 02-19-2013 09:13 AM

They got it from the Murphy brothers

As a twin myself I can tell you these things sometimes begin in utero.

What does your twin do? Is he/she also a doctor?

The origin of the chest bump goes back to the deepest recesses of the Congo. Mountain gorillas, specifically silver back males born from the same female were known to greet each other in such a manner.

he's a gastroenterologist in Pennsylvania. My being a psychiatrist spawned all the familiar references, such as "nuts and butts," "odds and ends," and others.

They both said in interviews that they saw the Murphy's do it and they did it once in college and it caught on with the fans at Stanford who went nuts and they just continued to do it to please the frat guys in the stands......

These references are not "familiar" to me. I assume it is standard humor in the medical field :-)

Though I would have thought butts and ends would be more apt for proctologists.

heninfan99 03-08-2013 07:05 AM

Well, it's better than a groin bump, IMHO.

Terenigma 03-08-2013 07:20 AM

One of the ATP men should join a mixed doubles with Julia Görges and convince her to do a chest bump..

rommil 03-09-2013 05:21 AM

That's how they were conceived:(

tennytive 03-09-2013 06:34 AM

I hate it.

If a partner I was playing with tried to chest bump me, that would be the last time we played together. I would probably do an O'le turn and let him chest bump air.

On the other hand, if it was Kaley Cuoco…

Sentinel 03-09-2013 08:00 AM

I've seen Leander doing it a while back. Was it with radek ?

I think it looks cool.
