Jo-Wilfried Tsonga wins Marseille...

... and saves match points in 2 matches along his way to the title. When was the last time a player managed to do that?

I think he only saved 1 MP in this match in the tiebreak when 5-6 down. In the match against Tomic he saved another 5 so it makes it 6 MPs saved for the title.

Djokovic saved 5 for Shanghai 2012, 2 for USO 2011.

I meant that Tsonga saved match points, not only in this match, but against Tomic 2 rounds earlier, where he saved 5. Thus saving MPs in 2 matches before going on to win the title.

who was the last player to win a tournament after saving MP in multiple matches ?

i have the following ones since 2002:
  • 2005: Moodie saved 4 MP's in SF (against Nieminen) & 2 MP's in F (against Ancic) in Tokyo
  • 2004: Davydenko saved 1 MP in SF (against Youzhny) & 3 MP's in F (against Rusedski) in Moscow
  • 2002: Hewitt saved 4 MP's in 2R (against Srichaphan) & 2 MP's in F (against Agassi) in San Jose

anything more recent ?

Wow, that is some feat from Jo then. I wonder if anyone has ever saved MPs in more than 2 matches on their way to a title. I also wonder what the most number of MPs saved in a tourney is. Jo saved 6 here in Marseille.

the last one was querrey at LA 2010...

With the win, Tsonga reversed a 1-4 FedEx ATP Head2Head record and three-match losing streak against Berdych. He became the first player to win an ATP World Tour title saving match point(s) in two different matches during the same tournament since Sam Querrey in Los Angeles in 2010. In the quarter-finals, the Frenchman also erased five match points to edge Bernard Tomic. World No. 8 Tsonga is the eighth different Top 10 player to lift a trophy in 2013.

Players seem to do it more often in their home countries (Davydenko in Moscow, Querrey in the USA, now Tsonga in France).

I unusually predicted it in the poll which has happened like never before. And a Scotsman wins the dubs, result.
