wow did he change something - that is the most ugliest left hand position i have ever seen.

is it breast stroke or dog paddle.

respect for a pro who has courage to tinker with major part of the game. shows he cares and wants to improve. biomechanically it's not as objectionable as some commentators make it out to be. I'm pretty sure it's not the end product.

Interesting video from cheetah's post. Wasn't aware that pros train like this, but then how much recreational players do know. LOL. We need more videos like this to learn from pros. Look very effective when i think about it.

Yeah, Gulbis has been doing some weird thing sticking his left hand out straight and then above his head as in this video from last year's US Open.

Seems a bit too unnatural to me, but he was still ripping the fh.

it was much heavier when he was using an 18x20 pattern with his old pt57e then h22. now that he is using an open pattern frame, i cant help but see a correlation.... and maybe he tweaked his form also.

Cheetah, thanks for the video...

one of my coaches had me do a similar drill to catch my racquet at the end of the follow through* and freeze to check my position. Interesting the neutral stance. Inside out forehands training?

Anyway, here's a clear slow motion (not high fps) of Gulbis' new weapon from a couple of days ago...

* Not recommended for normal practice or matches, just to be aware of where i am following through to on certain strokes.

did a few shadow swings and i like it!

feels exactly like breast stroke, and seems it does help to get that left arm into a tucked to the left side position.

my left arm motion tends to be an issue.... have tried the 'standard' left arm pointing to right fence style by seems to cause my weight get stuck on the right side.

but this breast stroke style feels more balanced between left and right.
