17 year old Nick Krygios wins Sydney Challenger
Beat Matt Reid in the final 6-3 6-2.

Could be interesting, always nice to see a youngster doing well; he also won the Junior AO this year (def. Kokkinakis).

The field isn't strong (highest ranked opponent he beat is 192nd Stephane Robert) but it'll be interesting to see how he backs up this win in the coming months.

Ranking will now be #330 come Monday..

Would love to have a good young Aussie tennis player to get behind - anyone but Tomic.

Yes him and Kokkinakis seem to be worth watching out for. Too bad Kokkinakis is dealing with injuries right now because he seemed to be getting a little momentum around him.

He reminds me of Tsonga.

He's lazy and unlikeable. Easy to not like.

The kid has huge game to go along with his size.........seems to also have a great on court attitude - none of the hang dog looks we get from Tomic and Isner.

I haven't seen him play, will need to watch.

Always good to see new guys coming through, especially if they look like they might be able to compete right at the top.

Challenger events are tough for the young players as playing against some experienced pros who have played on it for years and are match tough.

His name is Kyrgios, if I'm correct and he's certainly on a fast curve towards the ATP if he continues these type of results. I'm wondering if he'll play the full slate of junior slams or skip right to the big boy tour???

GRANITECHIEF 03-04-2013 08:56 AM

Wow, awesome! Wins a challenger 1 month before his 18th bday and rises 229 spots to ATP 330.

This kid should be the real deal. I've seen him play a fair bit live and he is impressive. Tall and already has a huge serve and great forehand.

He'll get a call up from Pat Rafter to be "orange boy" for the Davis Cup squad as he did last year. Nick has access to plenty of people who have been there and done that and he seems to be availing himself of their experience.
