Plantyar fascitis
 
I have pain in my right foot when I run or play tennis; may be plantar fascitis. I am thinking on buying Babolat SFX or some New balance tennis shoe. Suggestions on the tennis shoe to use and how to treat the plantar fascitis?

If in fact it's plantar fascitis, the medical literature indicates that what you wear when you play a sport is FAR less important than what you wear the rest of the day; needs to be a very cushioned shoe, preferably with heel cushion inserts.

My opinion - ?? - is that it heals at night with your calf shortened(toes pointed). When you get up and stretch the calf you damage the new healing on the bottom of your foot, more often near the front of the heel but over the rest of the bottom too. Ask your Dr if that is the case because I don't know.

Mine kept getting worse for a year. I finally stopped tennis for 3 months and it went away. Another friend of mine had a similar experience and he took off for a year. Both of us got over it from the breaks from tennis.

I went to the gym a while ago. I usually go in my lunch braak. Today I just stretched. It feels better. I guess I will have to stretch more.:)

I've had this problem with my foot since returning to tennis. My suggestion is getting a shoe that fit well, that means not too wide or big in the front. What I realized when I used the SFX's which are wider shoes is that my foot was not strapped in or stable when I was on the move.

I then went back to using my Propulses, and even the the strap looks measly, it really keeps your foot in place. Try coupling those shoes with some orthotics. I buy these; which are relatively inexpensive and super comfy.

I've since lost a decent amount of weight so my PF is practically non-existent, unless I have a new pair of shoes to break in.

Well, it worked for me this time.:) i stretched my legs, calves, quads, etc. I did not stretch or produced pain in the affected area.

If the SFX is too lose Ill use an ankle brace with it. and, I am trying to loose weight. Fish, vegetables an fruit for me please. And, some ocasisonal piece of cheese (sorry, but will try and get goat cheese next week) and some organic cereal. No rice,pasta, wheat, etc...

The pain I had at 12:25 while walking to the gym was not present when walking back at 1:05. Why? I dont know. I just made easy stretches for 25 minutes, some situps and a few pullups.

Invest in some orthotics. It's like pillows for your feet.

Stretching is a must but make certain you stretch while warm. Go to injuredrunner.com and do their PF stretches. They are the best. I liked them so much I actually bought their dvds and I never buy anything!

Too small a shoe or too tight of a lacing habit are what cause this sort of issue. Your feet swell when you play, so you cannot buy a shoe that fits well/snug at home or in the store. Buy a half-size bigger and wear two pairs of socks if you need a more secure fit. Also, don't lace the shoes up like you're going to kill your circulation in your foot. They don't need to be that tight to be secure on your feet when you run and change direction.

Do you have pain in the mornings for a few minutes after you get out of bed?

Something that helped me was going barefoot around the house and in the yard. But when the PF went away and I started training hard, I picked up an injury in my foot that hasn't gone away. I'm hoping my feet are just out of shape from being sedentary for a few months. So I got some good hiking shoes and I'll pursue that through the warm months. If my feet get any worse, I'll get checked out by a sports medecine doctor. Take it easy on your feet when the PF goes away.

If it is PF REST or it will just get worse. I had PT for it. I lost a summer of tennis to this injury but Physical Therapy cured it.

The sneaker I would suggest for now is Brooks Addiction or something from their line. They are running shoes but you can go back to tennis shoes once you're healed.

Like someone mentioned of you have have PF the first steps after wake up in the morning will be very painful.
