Why can't I do this!?!?!?!!?!?

I trust my backhand in rallies and when I want to go for the kill. I need to improve it by adding more height/spin, but it's a pretty reliable weapon in my game.

But I simply cannot hit a backhand in the service court when warming up with short tennis. I can do it with a two handed backhand but never with my one-handed. I either pop the ball over my partner's head or I brush it too much and send it into the net.

WHY!!?!?!?!

Argghh...

sounds like your pre-flop game needs a little work Andre! :)

I really can't help not being a one hander, but I will say this, my short tennis game is not very good, I'm much more comfortable going for the full swing/drive and using the other players pace.

Exaggerate the racket drop on the one handed backhand. Thats the only way it works for short court.

At your level, should you be able to hit topspin backhands short court?
Or does a 4.0 really need to slice the ball in order to control and limit it's depth?

Should he be able to warm up his OHBH short court?

Yes he should.

Why does his rating even have to mentioned? He's asking about that specific shot and tips on performing it.

OP, a more extreme racket drop would work, as well as a slower RHS and taking the ball at the right height to give you the required trajectory.

Check that your grip is a correct eastern BH grip, turn your shoulders and set your feet properly, bending your knees. Just because you are warming up short does not mean you shouldn't use a full and proper stroke, albeit at a reduced pace and intensity.
