Donald Young is back with Prince

In Auckland it looks like he's using the Prince Tour 100T ESP racket can anyone confirm it's actually that racket? Also I might add I wish this guy can just keep one racket that he likes and stop changing them.

Who is Donald Young?

I've seen him play in NYC. He's a lefty. Nice grounds strokes. But no put way shots. Most of the year (2013) he was not in the top 100. I don't think.

He was using Prince EXO Tour in Tiburon Challenger in October wonder if updated or PJ.

Donald is still Young. Give him time and you will be amazed.

DY is the future of men's tennis in the US, quit your hating...he just needs a prince signature stick and I am predicting a semi-finals showing at the US Open, this is the year!

There's a Donald thread in the pro match section. You can post your pipe dreams there.

What about another pep talk from pistol Pete...maybe a ps 85 with a ton of lead to go with it? Finals maybe- US Open and Wimbledon???

Bartelby 01-08-2014 06:53 PM

There are any number of failed american 'young guns'.

What makes Young different?

NLBwell 01-08-2014 10:28 PM

Even more hyped than the others.

TennisAddiction 01-09-2014 06:35 AM

He's still around??? Playing tennis? He's got to be about 35 years old by now!

tennisblog365 01-09-2014 10:12 AM

Donald Young needs to spend some money on different coaches, not stay with his parents as coaches. I mean, he needs a different type of thinking around him, mix things up a little.

asifallasleep 01-09-2014 10:20 AM

He's 24 which is shocking but he's still the 6th top ranked american. Which tells you how bad american tennis has gotten.

John Isner 14
Sam Querry 46
Tim Smyczek 89
Michael Russell 91
Bradley Klahn 95
Donald Young 96
Ryan Harrison 99
Jack Sock 100

I heard he was just hired as assistant pro here at my local tennis club.

Same club has a FO round of sixteen over-achiever from the mid 80's.

Now we got the over/under covered?

tennisblog365 01-09-2014 10:30 AM

American tennis has gotten worse, because more money is poured in football and basketball on every level high school, college, professional. There are not as much children in general, who want to go all the way to become a professional tennis player in the US. Actually John Isner and Sam Querry weren't even confident they were going to play pro tennis. John had to 'flip a coin' between basketball and tennis and went to college. Sam Querry wanted to go to college as well. They don't have motivation like European players do, since they have been young.

^^^^^^

Perhaps the concussion issue in american football will sway a few more kids toward a "lifetime sport" in the near future?

Hard to say, but even though i knew i'd never be pro at anything I made the switch from other (team) sports including football to tennis in junior high for similar reasons (early-mid 80's). Team tennis of course, but you get me...

Call me a sissy, but i find it hard to fathom that parents these days would steer their kids toward or even allow them to play football, unless they were an extremely gifted punter or placekicker...

agreed. The spanish and french are way ahead of us now...so many talented players from those countries. Very exciting.
