No I don't think there will ever be a shortage because nylon, the main part of most strings, is entirely synthetic

How do you know that poly's do not last long in the cold. I live in IL and at the beginning of the season, when it's cold, my poly strings were lasting as long then as they are now

The clamps on the progression have a knob that you turn to lock them where on the x-fc they have a lever. I am guessing that the lever clamps make them quicker or is there a difference?

I would go with the silent partner swing. I have had experience with all of these machines and I think that that 6 pt. mounting on the silent partner is a real advantage.
