Interesting - I don't really have the same problem as much in singles league matches, it can happen but usually its not nearly as bad a meltdown. I also seem to serve worse when the doubles...

Why would you want to equalize it at all? Movement of the mains is a good thing, at least for polys. Maybe if you use syn gut and want to lock in the stringbed somewhat higher x's would help?
